I've spun out more driving in snow in my parents subaru than in my truck in 4x4.

but I agree they are amazing in bad conditions, especially with a good set of winter tyres

The problem is, they made them mid-sized. Had they stuck with the gen I dimensions (and pricing), no one would question their purpose. They are now scrutinizing Tacomas because they are almost the same price as the 1/2 tons. I think Toyota has lost their vision as far as mini trucks, but what do I know, people are buying them.

If I thought my truck was a useless joke, I never would have bought it.

People are freaking out about how expensive Tacoma are getting. I think Toyota realized they could charge 15 to 20 grand more and people would still buy them.. That's the way the free market system works!

At least they hold their value.. I seen people buy a range rover for 80k, 5 yrs later it's worth 8k.. dealers will laugh if you want more than that on a trade in..

If they offered more in manual trans, I might have considered. But let's look at this in a bigger picture. What hasn't grown in our society? We have bigger houses, we buy bigger meals, bigger tv, even bigger cell phones(flip flop fones). So yes the small midsize trucks have grown as have the full size.

As far as the getting bigger in size is concerned there are stricter vehicle safety regs now.. remember how small the Honda accord used to be! Subaru are huge now..

I drive up highway 2 (WA) all winter in storms , blizzards,etc.. in my 95 i was really close to the windshield, now I'm sitting farther back, I've got a ton of airbags around me, and my traction control will not let me get sideways even if I tried.. coming home from night skiing at 11 pm in a storm I can't go in the ditch! I need to get up and go to work in the morning!

the size of a mid size now is pretty much the size of a 1/2ton full size from the late 80s and 90s.

But that's the same with all vehicles now days. They're all so much bigger. Look how big the new porsches are compared to older ones.
A lot of it is for safety and comfort. But oh well. Where I park each day is one of the few outdoor lots in the area I'm in downtown and its pretty much all trucks as all the garages near there are too low to fit a truck. My truck still looks like a mid sized compared to them lol.

And same comparison from a different angle.

The F150 is definitely bigger, but the width difference is not that much.

I never said that midsize trucks are pointless.

All I said was that people make it out that the fullsize trucks are SOOOOO much wider, when in actuality they are only 5 inches wider.

I far prefer DDing a midsize truck since I no longer need 16000lb towing capacity.
