We were planning on getting a BIG camper so I bought a BIG truck (F250 Super Duty)

Ended up getting a camper that was only around 7k, which the F250 towed effortlessly.

Now the boys are older and we are doing RTT and hammock camping, so, no real need for the beast.

    No worries

Yeah, that is what I see too. "Midsize" is the old "full size".

I've been on more than a few trails where 5 more inches would have been a challenge

My biggest disappointment is that the Tacoma has not advanced as some of the full size trucks have in the fuel efficiency department.

Nope. bought the absolute right truck for the absolute right needs.

Live/work in the city. 5 min subway ride or 20 min walk to work so don't really need a DD.

Only need truck to get out of the city and into the mountains/woods/trails. I like all my crap outside the interior so I don't have to hear cling and clack of the gear in the back, so no SUV. Tried that: 2-12 hours of outdoor gear clanging around as we drove just irritated me for 10 years, so it's so much better in the bed. Plus it's so much easier after a long weekend to just put the crap in without having to clean anything and wash the bed out later. couldn't do that in our tribute or santa fe. I do miss the tribute though.santafe, not so much.

for the 1-2 times out of the year we need a fullsize we do like we did before the truck: rent a sierra from u-haul or just have it delivered.

Back when we had a miata, people in the forums would take pride in the vehicle being called "pointless". I mean, if these were purely work trucks, why do people spend all the money on after market mods. These are enjoyable vehicles, and an enjoyable forum. I think it's enjoyable when people bitch and moan and flame each other. It's like a bunch of guys sitting in the break room or at the bar bitching and making fun of each other for stupid shit.

IMHO mid-size SUV/CUVs that are all the rage right now are pointless. Less fuel efficient than a car, no more cargo room than a hatchback, worse blind spots/safety ratings/stability than a sedan, no more "activity oriented" than a car with a roof rack, cannot tow more than a car with a uhaul trailer hitch, and they typically cost as much or more than a comparably-sized sedan. And yet they sell like hotcakes and the only reason I hear people wanting them is: I like the seating position. And here I thought my reason for wanting to put stuff in the trunk without having to pop the trunk was dumb.
