Midwest -> Moab March 24- April 2 2023

Maybe. I’ve been wanting to get out to Utah again, would be cool to do it again with some guys from tw. Last time I went in late June and it was almost a 100 degrees

 

Which is why we aren't going in June. Too friggin' hot. (Not really. Well, it is friggin' hot, but the real reason we're going in March is for spring break .)

I was there last Oct. alone w/spotter. Going with a group is going to a blast. Make it happen.

 

Not too hot, just have to get up early to do activities. “It’s a dry heat…” or something.

 

Hell yea , wish some of ya'll were coming from the west coast

Haha yea it was fun. Did some hiking in the morning, wheeling as it got warmer, then ended up at the golf club using their range

 

This made me chuckle...

 

I would like to propose that on the 29th we do Long Canyon (which is an easy trail) while on the way to the Poison Spider trail head. Long Canyon is close to the campground (maybe 15min drive) off of Hwy 313 and ends on Hyw 279 10 min from the Poison Spider trail head.

It's a nice drive with good views.

 

Damn! I wish I could go on that trip!
Wife wants to use all of our vacation visiting her family in Taiwan this year though.
Hopefully this will become an annual event....

 

Taiwan sounds like a worthwhile way to spend vacation. Do they have.... you know..... Good places to get a massage? lol

@pearing do you have an idea for a camping location in the Denver area on our way out? Would like to get that info in the itinerary also.

 

Okay: Prewitt Reservoir. It is 8+ hours from Des Moines IA and about 100 miles east of Denver. 8+ hours to Moab from there. Has dispersed camping:

I will get a fishing license so we can be "legal" although I imagine in March who cares (alone I would risk it, being the rebel I am...)

If anyone has something they know about closer to Denver , please do tell. This is just an idea that works with my seat hours. We can also just get a hotel on the other side of Denver, although that might blow my budget (seriously...)

 

I'm planning to take Long Canyon from camp to town, also. Looks pretty cool. So, yeah, do it on the way to PS.

That site is fine with me, It's about the halfway point. Looks like a 1 day fishing license is about $17. I'll put it in the itinerary.



@JOHNNYPICKLES and @Littlekate you guys wanted to join the convoy from Denver. We'll have to figure out a meeting place and time on Saturday 3/25 since we'll be camping east of Denver on the night of 3/24. Maybe meet on the west side of Denver along I70? Recommendations on a location? Probably close to a gas station might as well fill up if making a stop.

 

There is a Park & Ride west of D-Town just before you start going over the hill. https://www.codot.gov/travel/parknride/dinosaur-park-n-ride with lots of parking/space to meet up. You'd want to hit a gas station prior to getting there, but this will put you in a good location to get the convoy together to head west on I-70.
