It's been my baggage to keep the panels as clean as possible from routine power hosing so far so good only a couple surface spots popped up and touched up promptly
If the newer trucks have better body panels maybe I should get a more modern one and have one less worry!

I suppose it's time to keep an eye out on the 05 to 10s out there and see what is going on?

He has a propietary aluminium tailgate, front quarters are polymer. It's badass.

Toyota can't do the titanium alloy frames until 2023 for the trucks, but it might happen.

You should deff get a 3rd gen.

you think trucks just 5-10 years old in the salt belt will start showing signs of body rust in the rockers,tailgate,fender wells,etc.
those not routinely kept clean behind the flare moldings
a number of first gens have this problem

 

not everything is a rust bucket. I think mine has been washed like 3 times this winter and that was mostly to get the mud off. usually it doesn't get washed from November to march..

mine is already 3 years old and still fine
@Tigerian truck is 7 years old and still good
@Realoldfatguy truck is 10 and still fine.

my 2005 had some rust on the bottom of one door, but it was like that when I bought it and had no running boards to catch the crap from the road. it also qualified for the frame replacement.

 

I meant if your gonna look for a 2nd gen , look at the years 05-15. Like in the last comment. Plenty of good trucks in the salty areas you can find if your not wanting to travel. Mine is a 14 and is clean....very clean.

 

Yes, I know the area. I’m very thorough when I clean my truck. That area is never missed
