    Hey all,

My 2002 DC limited 4x4 was stolen last week was is more than likely totaled. I should find out by tomorrow... If that's the case I'll be looking to get a 2nd Gen double cab.

If you had to choose between 05-11 what year has been the best year for the 2nd gen tacos?

I'm also trying to decide on long or short bed. Main issue is the ability to park it in my garage. Anyone park their long bed in a standard sized garage?

RCD 4-5 inch lift is what has my attention at the moment, they fit all 2nd Gens? The info I've read sounds like it.

And the whole VSC thing seems like an easy fix at the dealer I take it...

Last, I think I'm going to be looking to get a TRD sport...

    Thanks for any info!

as far as the year, it depends on how much you wanna spend?

when I bought my 2010 dbl cab prerunner trd off road I got it for 25,900
I think the sport, minus the JBL package was right around that price as well.
for 4x4 add about 2k on top of that.

05-08 are all basically the same, but available options varied

off the top of my head 09+ adds traction control (TRAC on SR5's and TRD Sport, A-TRAC on TRD OR...TRAC also acts as a brake controlled LSD as the mechaincal unit in the sport has been discontinued), black chrome headlights on TRD models, redesigned LED tailights, grille center is now gray instead of flat black. There's a few other things, but aside from the traction control I believe they're mostly cosmetic.

Short beds DC's will generally give better performance off road, but I went with a short bed because a long bed would not fit in my garage. It would have fit in my old house though, so the only way to know for sure is to measure.

I dont think it really matters on what year as mentioned above it just depends on how much you want to spend, I do know that in 05 the Tacoma received truck of the year award. :D

I defiantly am getting 4x4. As far as cash, it seems like I'll only be paying upwards of 5 grand to get a new one compared to like an 08-10.

Are most suspension lifts, as far as coiliver and DB lifts going to be the same for an 11?

I'll look for some length specs on the long bed and measure out my garage.

    Thanks for the input!

It's probably what I can find really. I'm kinda picky about color. I don't want white or silver. I'd like low miles. 4x4. DC. And a trd package. Any where around the 25,000 to low 30's probably.

One thing that may be worth mentioning is the new lifetime engine warranty offered by Toyota to the original owner of a newly purchased vehicle. Ordered my 2011 without knowing about it and when I picked it up I had to sign the warranty paperwork and was completely caught off guard by it believing it to be some sort of aftermarket upsell and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a no cost addition from Toyota. My understanding is that as the first owner of this truck the engine is warrantied by Toyota for as long as I own the truck but if I sell the truck off then that warranty expires.

Didn't know if you were aware of that being available and I don't know if it is only attached to 2011 models or everything new on the lot. Regardless, I hope you find exactly what you are looking for. I traded up from a 2003 and really enjoy my second generation immensely.

As far as suspension changes go for the 2011 I haven't received an answer yet but was planning on calling the folks at Icon today to find out about their stage four system as I have other questions for them too in reference to the suggested wheel size as mine came with 17" wheels.

For the first time, financial advisors say it is better to buy a new car vs. a used car now. With the economy the way it is new car dealers are hurting and are more willing to deal. In addition, many people are buying used instead of new to save a few bucks increasing the used car values. The cost of ownership on a new car is much less for the first 10 years due to warranties.
With that said I would buy a new taco! My advice is if you don’t need a locker by the sport TRD. You will later want that hood and color matched grill, handles, rear bumper, and mirrors!!! If you want to lift it have the dealer lift it and include it as a dealer option so it can be covered under warranty. If you plan on having anything other than a few groceries in the back seats buy the double cab. Depending on price have them undercoat it!!!! Don’t waste your money on the Toyota all-weather mats ask them to order you digital fit weather-techs. Remove you mud flaps IMMEDIATELY. They do more harm the good! Get the factory tow package. It is well worth the money (should include a heavy duty battery, heavy duty alternator, Trans oil cooler, hitch, and wiring)

Thanks guys for all of the info. After all of this, I think I'll be looking to get a 2011 trd sport double cab. I should know tomorrow on the outcome of my truck.

As for the lift, I'm definitely going for a nice coiliver set up. I had a 3inch revtek on my last Tacoma.

    I appreciate the info all!

this is not at all true. it can occassionally make sense depending upon factory incentives IF you are stuck on a particular brand/model - but as a general rule, and a broad statement - nothing has changed as to new vs. used from a stictly financial perspective.

the only reason I bought mine new was because I got it cheaper than the used one i was looking at. On top of that, I got an 8yr/120000 B2B warranty for $1200 and 5/60 full maintenance for $700.

Not True. When i went to pick up my tags from my dealer they had a new taco with a allpro bumper and a icon lift with wheels and tires and only wanted 3,500 more for the truck.

Called up the local dealership for a quick quote...

2011 pyrite mica DC trd sport 4x4 short bed for 34,000. How does that price sound for starting? Of course I won't settle without a fight. Or some deals thrown in.
