Me and some of my friends are planning on going down to see a old friend that moved away. He lives in Georgia. None of us have a truck big enough to take all 3 of us comfortably, so we're gonna drive separate. One guy has a first gen taco, the other has a k1500, they're both gonna be hauling their toys in their beds. I don't have the room to put mine in the bed. (05 Honda trx250) I could fit it, with the tailgate down, but I obviously don't want to do that And drive down the interstate, I also want to have my tonneau on for the trip. My question is, how would the 4 banger cope with pulling a 5x8 open trailer with the trx250 on it down to Georgia? My main concern is going over mt. Eagle. Any insight on the situation will be much appreciated. Also suggestions on anything I could get to make the trip easier on the truck would be appreciated.

If you can fit it with the tailgate down then why not haul it that way. As long as you strap it down well that's plenty safe and pretty common, plus your tailgate comes off super easy so you don't have to worry about damaging it.

To put it in the bed I'd also have to take my tonneau off, and in result leave in At home. I want to be able to have it down there so I can throw things in the bed and not worry about it getting wet. If my truck wasn't a standard cab I wouldn't worry about it so much, there's just not much room in there

Well towing with the 4 banger isn't exactly ideal and the 3500lb limit comes up mighty fast. I think you'd be better off storing things in the cab and passenger seat (since you're all taking separate vehicles) and keeping the load in the bed. When you add a trailer you multiply a lot of variables such as wind resistance, braking force, accelerative force needed to overcome inertia. But you have my opinion now...
    Good luck! :)

Pulled this set up 300 miles at 75mph on Saturday. Was able to use 5th gear for most of it believe it or not. I don't think you'll have any issues, but I agree, put it in the bed if you can.

It'll pull it easy enough. I'd use the trailer. It is so much easier to load and unload. Mt Eagle is the steepest part of the trip, but not that bad. It's not like you're going over the Rockies.

I'm confused, why do you have a light trailer inside of a heavier trailer?

Pay attention to the speed rating of the trailer tires.....Lots of idiots pull trailers at 75mph with tires only rated at 65mph. Just cause the speed limit is 75mph and the truck can do it doesn't mean you should.

No but they sent a tech to fix it for free, and the night before i moved i had a different dolly that had a bent fender and half bald tire from the bent fender, so they removed the dolly cost completely. Due to my inconvenience. Lol. And i paid for a 20 foot but they were all out and gave me a 26, which is good cause i completely filled the 26 up. And lastly i brought them both back to a location that was offering a 100 dollar refund since they were in need of 26s, so i moved on the super cheap

Because I don't trust the trailer thats under the jet ski... I would trust it if I repacked the wheel bearings and checked it over.. but I rather put it on my nice new trailer that CAN run 75mph

We've thought about taking my moms daily, (05 suburban) and pulling one of the other guys 7x12 single axel. That was until I learned that the trailer dosent the have brakes. Usually I would overlook it., but the Burbans brakes aren't very good, don't trust it going over mt. Eagle.

+ none of us are old enough to rent anything anyway

My only concern would be that the plate would be partially obscured by the tailgate being down possibly getting you pinched especially if your out of state.

That was lingering in the back of my mind as well. GSP would be the kind of cops to do that.

Before my Tacoma, had a Mazda 2.6 4cylinder, soft bed cover. Made a 3,500 mile trip to Colorado towing a 5x10 single axle trailer with King Quad, bed full of camping equipment. Crossed Raton, La Veta, Monarch, and Wolf Creek passes - no problem. No trailer brakes either. I wouldn't worry about Monteagle Pass. Just shift down for downhill speed control if gaining speed with no throttle.
