Oversized gaskets through Cometic via special order. Gained 471cc over the 4.0 which is actually 3956cc. 1.5mm over bore and stroked to 103mm over 95mm stock. Total of 4427cc's now. So 4.4L or 4.5L since companies round up

 

Sweet! How much did that set you back? Without cams, just the boring/sleeves and whatever it took to make it happen

For your head gaskets, how did you choose 1.5mm over bore? saw on cometic's site you can choose like 5 different sizes. was the 103mm decided after sleeves/pistons configured? Trying to gather all my parts, not cheap. Planning on doing similar project sans sleeves in the next couple of months.

 

Email Cometic directly and they should tell you what size gasket you will need for each bore. I went with what they suggested for the bore I was planning to use

 

Stroker engine with 160 motorad thermostat gets hotter than I want. Even in freezing temps. Went to a 160 Mishimoto thermostat (they flow better) and a Derale twin electric fan system with pulse width modulator..

Here is the test fit fan system mounted to the factory radiator. Had to build custom L brackets as the ones that came with fan wouldn't work.


And installed..
Went to a rpm 69" SC belt and a cogged 2.3" pulley too. Overall a good day.

The fan system has it's own temperature control system with an AC override wire.. While setting the temperature on the fan to turn on at my choice temp, I wired the AC override to the fog lights for easy control for now. I still have to chase down the AC on wire in the fuse box to tap.

 

Do they specify a certain coolant temp when installing sleeves?

 

No they don't. Heads haven't changed though and they have potential to start to warp at 220F. I just want and prefer to have more head room away from that

 

Gotcha. So when is this beast going on the dyno?

 

I have one more mod to do still before I search out a dyno for official numbers.. That's A @Roostfactor y pipe and keg muffler. I'm excited to see what dyno numbers are achieved though.

Question for ya.. Thinking about picking up the older URD headers for my 2015. How is the seal with the 2015 gasket? Is it a nice tight seal or a little sketchy?

 

The seal seems to be holding up without issues.

 

Man this must be killer fun to drive with the new motor. Did you run your 3 deg retard cam gears with the kelford cams on this new motor?

My truck is still running strong with the your cam gears installed. Been over a year now.

 

I've run it long enough without the gears to get a good feel for it. I'll install the gears at some point. Probably within the year. I wanted a baseline without them to see how they affect the kelford cams

 

I'm impressed with the in depth engine build! That looks like it will put down good numbers when its all dialed in. Will you be tuning with hp tuners?

 

Currently tuning with hptuners yes. It satisfies 90% of my needs, looking forward to what ovtune does for the 1grfe and if they unlock more options
