Just back from 2200 mile road trip. 21.7 mpg overall average, lightly loaded for the first 365 miles, and then just myself and luggage. Speed limit plus 5 up to 70, and then just held 70 even when limit went to 75. It seems that the truck has loosened up considerably, as hills that required shifting last June when I drove some of the same route worked in 5th gear this trip. Turned 23,000 miles. A tonneau (sp?) cover might help, but a pain in the ass for hauling, and they take up precious cargo space. Not bad, but certainly not great.

Toneau are great if you get the right one. Bakflip mx4. Folds 3x right up against the cab. full bed access. Of course there are other versions. I drive 75 most of the time on highways. Limit 65 in NY. Depending on wind get 18 something or a lucky 19 something mpg. That is me as the only load and a bedmat.

My tank average is 15mpg, stock size tires (265/65/17) C rated ATs.

Good thing I don't t have to drive this to work, I'd have to get rid of it. Can't believe the terrible mileage.

Oh and I have a Bakflip G2, no noticeable different with or without tonnaeu cover.

lucky if mine gets 18 mpg. pretty pathetic if ya ask me.. if i knew it was gonna get such crappy mpg i'd have bought something with a V8, have firends with V8 tricks with more tow capacity and they are getting 20 mpg with them..

Consistently get 18-20+ on mine. "C" 265/70/17 KO2's. Always use ECT unless going over 60. Alwaysy use cruise when I can on the highway. Full Tonneau.

    I'm happy with that.

I'm getting high 16s so I'm somewhat cheesed but whatever. Haven't even removed the air dam yet.

Why do people post tank average? Who cares, who knows how much of the tank that is for. It varies way to much tank to tank really depending on what you are doing.

Post the overall lifetime mpg for the truck, there is a read out for that.

My window sticker stated 18-22 MPG and I average 20 MPG. Want to trade for my wife's Honda CR-V?

shit i just dove home 6 hours with the cruise control set at 75 and the damn thing dipped in the 18.2 range here and there but was in the 17 range more often then not.. pathetic mileage from a little V6 in my opinion. all that was in it was me and my 9 year old daughter with our ski equipment so its not liek the truck was loaded with crap either, oh and it does have a bed cover not that it helps mpg anyway...

in the end i'm glad i only leased it. i did so to see if i like it and to see how it towed when i needed to to tow. i didn't want to be trapped with it if i didn't like it.. the tacoma will be turned in when the time comes. so unimpressive this thing is. trans is ridiculous too. so unrefined.. love the way the truck looks but man they just missed the mark with the other stuff in my opinion...

and no you can keep your cr-v. i have a fit that gets mileage for daily driving..

Gotta love when every Tacoma for the last 15 years has been averaging 16-18mpg and people buy one and are pissed at 16-18mpg. WTF were you expecting? lol

I've averaged over 22 for the first 1500 miles on mine. That includes driving over several mountain passes. I've been pleasantly surprised. Mine is totally stock. I expect it will go down if I replace the tires with a little larger 10 ply tire.

Honestly been pretty pleased with mine as well. Lifted on 32" tires for 6K miles and life time average read out on the display is 18.3mpg. This has not been corrected for tire size which I believe would bump that figure up a smidgen. Works for me.

Posting MPG is about as pointless as you can get. Fuel blends, driving conditions, elevation, weather conditions ALL vary so much there's no point in discussing it.

Besides, 90% of the time we don't get the entire story. The OP's post says SR 4x4 5 speed so I can only imagine he has a 4 banger...

There was a guy on here a while ago that would fill his tank (resetting the calculator) then would coast a mile or so and post photos of the truck reading 28 or 29MPG. People would flip out, "my truck only gets 18" and this guy never said anything until he was called out.

I average (according to the computer) 23 MPG on my 25 mile commute into the office and 24.5 on the sane commute home. Mostly 55 MPH back roads with no stopping. About the ideal circumstances. Best i've seen it say over the same commute was when I was hypermiling with a strong tailwind with the speedo pegged at 40-45 and averaged 27 for the commute home.

i was expecting better then 17-low 18 mpg unloaded... i was expecting seats that don't sound like a cheap plastic shopping bag when ya sit in them.. i was expecting a refined transmission not some confused piece of garbage. i expected toyota to have drive by wire figured out and refined by now.. real disappointed in this thing.. like i said.. great looking truck. underwhelming follow through with the rest.. i will move on in two years which and not look back. i'm glad its not my daily driver. think i'd find a ton more crap i don't like and that drives me crazy about it if it was..
