First off happy veterans day to all the current and prior service.

Is going to the AF academy for 2 yrs give or take considered actual service? A guy just started working with, went to the academy for just short of 2 years, and tells people regularly he served and is borderline retarded arrogant with it (got out because he didnt like dealing with the politics of it), not to sure how I feel about it, since I dont know jack shit about the academy. And in the dept i work theres atleast 6 or 7 prior service enlisted and were all kinda sketchy about it. So all in all what the majority opinion on this.

Two years at the Academy is nothing...the academies aren't considered for time in service, or for any other purpose. And to wave it around like he deserves something.. Lame.
My question is "Why did he leave the Academy??" Cause not liking the politics is a bullshit answer.

Military accademy is NOT sevice. No way, no how. You are in college. Albeit you are in a school that trains for leadership you are not on the line. There is no argument that is all.

Had a LT tell me he had 5 years in after westpoint. Could not action on an objective or even conduct a pcc/pci to save his life. He was great at OPORDS and planning but execution sucked. No practical experiance. He was made to be humble and queit and was a PSGs dream LT once he lost the holyier than tho attitue.

Lets not go too far overboard there. While I was at the Academy - I did more "on the line" than a lot of folks who are "active duty." So making blanket statements is a dangerous game.
Two years and "getting out because of politics" is someone who was a shitbag 99% of the time...but just because it's a college doesn't make it any less of a service.

Ok dont missread me, we butt heads alot. Service Schools educate officers greatly (I am speaking for west point as that is all I know) However it is not a cure all. They come out eager and hungry and very knowelgable on the officer side of the house. Planning, TLPs, OPORDS ect. What they lack is practical experiance and real world exection. While they may be able to plan often they are unable to know what to plan. That is the PSGs job, to push the LT in the right direction and to do so in a way that the LT remains in charge and learns to trust the enlisted side of the house. Any other way breeds the officer vs enlsited bullshit that is toxic at the platoon/small unit level. I equate "On the Line" with experiance. There are exceptions, fast learners ect. Hell even people that could not digest experiance if it was funneled in their mouth. All of this is for the combat arms side of the house. The technical side Like you brunes I would assume would be a little more practical in what they taught, not just theory. However at the same time you guys are pursueing a degree. NO way does it count as time. It counts as a way of earning a commission. I hope this clarifiyied what I meant

Those were his reasons, saying he had to contact the senator that sponsored him and it took a while for him to actually get out, and he still has a CAC card idk why though, or even if it may be expired. I know yall were butting heads but for the most part Brunes going to the academy and j83 maybe at West Point, yall agree that its bs to consider himself a "military veteran".

He still has a CAC?? That is wrong (because he stole it) unless he has another valid reason to have it...which makes my bullshit meter go even higher.

Doesn't smell right - does not sound like he is in a position to maintain a CAC - so it's probably expired. Academy = not active service. While one could argue that it is in service of the service that attitude might be a bit ...of a stretch. (putting it lightly).

Sounds like you already know why he didn't make it.

Academy time doesn't count towards time in service. Meaning, when finished a graduate will need complete 20 years (not 16) to retire. Without having logged federal service a cadet is not a Veteran. If your not a Veteran you haven't "served."

bull. I have friends who are seniors at the AF academy, and they have the same view as me and the other "normal" ROTC non-prior service..

we're shitbag little snotnosed brats until we've actually branched and been attached to a unit. Even then, it'll be awhile before we can say we're anything close to "competent"
