    up behind the tail light.

to clarify, the modification moves the breather up behind the taillight. The stock breather just sits right on top of the diff.

Make a 8” loop in the tube so it holds the condensation at bottom of loop.

wont this defeat the purpose of a breather if too much water is blocking the tube?

Any cracks/splits/wear along the hose? Might be hard to see since the tube is clear. I’ve done a diff breather relocate on 3 different vehicles and never had this issue across 3 wildly different climates including high humidity

One of the many reasons folks don’t do this mod.

Can't tell you why, but have see test and results. Clear tude/ hose condensate more then black rubber tube/ hose. If I can find article, will post. Has to do with composition, of materials.

I will trust the stock breathers until I prove them faulty.

Blew out the axle seals on my 2nd Gen because of water getting in the stock breather. Relocated after that and never an issue. One of the first tweaks I did after getting my 3rd Gen

What type of fitting did you use on the diff housing, was there a gasket? What kind of breather did you use, and is the tube tight on both ends? Hose clamps?

Toyota uses remove breathers on several of their vehicles without issue.

I think you have a bigger issue than the clear plastic hose. Probably a bad breather. If it were condensation then you'd expect there to be issues with the front diff as well since the breather is up in the engine bay and not right on the front diff.

I don’t really understand that logic. Jeeps have had breathers on a hose exactly like
the aftermarket Tacoma kits for ages. My 94 YJ for example. I don’t see how this introduces any more condensation to the Toyota axle than the Jeep factory version does to its Dana axles.

What are the other reasons to not relocate the breather? I’m not anti-stock, but I don’t really see a downside to the relocation. I have a feeling the install on OP’s breather was the problem, not the parts themselves. They shouldn’t allow any more condensation into the diff than the stock breather, seeing as both are breathers. Maybe hose clamps weren’t tight enough, I don’t know.

All points worthy of discussion. I’m not sure where I went wrong as I followed instructions as best I could but it was a while ago. I ordered some new fluid, when I do the change next weekend hopefully I will assess the breather system and if it seems the hose or whatever is causing issues I’ll go back to the stock breather for now.

I did the breather mod on my 2nd gen, but won’t do it on my 3rd gen until the warranty expires in 7 years. I don’t want Toyota potentially denying it due to this mod.

That isn’t typical for the ‘mod’. I don’t think you had your hose clamp tight enough or something.
