New belt maybe? Squeeling and stiff steering leas
Does the steering feel ok after the squealing? If so, pump should be ok; sounds like a slipping belt but I'm assuming the belts are all new. I'm also assuming you've checked the tension. Couldn't tell you tbh :notsure:

Thanks man. It's actually very important to see something through. Proves to myself that I can overcome the challanges that come up.

Steering feels fine when the squealing stops.
I listened more carefully and it seems like the fan is running while the squealing is happening. To be honest, I did not check the tension on the alternator belt. That's the only other one I am running at the moment.

Sounds like a slipping belt due to wear or bad tension :notsure:

I will check it out and report back!

    Update onthe parts truck.
    Got the power steeringrack out.
    Removed the front brake lines.
    Pulled the sway bar off.
    Upper control arms are out.
Lower control arm bolts are out but 3 of the 4 bushings need to be pressed out.
Front strut assemblies are out and apart. Springs will be cleaned up and re-used, struts are garbage.

    Now for pictures

My profession involves wiring and fabrication.
Cameras, alarms, structured communication cabling, network design and setup, electrical, in home audio, home theatre, installing and repairing anything electrical automotive. I design and make specific electronic devices to suit customers needs. I manufacture items out of wood, steel, plastics, fiberglass and carbon fiber.
The majority of my days are spent solving problems, all sorts of problems.
I think I'm pretty good at what I do.
Why am I telling you all of this?

I have found that when I solve problems that are part of my life, ie the truck and the squealing on startup, my brain seems to automatically not take the first few steps of trouble shooting which determine which direction you hunt down a problem.

StAndrew was absolutely right with his suggestions.

    What I should have done:
    1. What thing(s) cause the squealing on startup?
    2. Detrmine which one(s) is the offending thing.
    3. Take steps to remedy.

I thought for sure the issue was the power steering belt, and maybe it was also however after StAndrew gave his suggestions and thougt it had to be a loose or bad belt I thought, dude, you totally dismissed the alternator belt! (I'm not running AC at the moment)

I found the alternator belt to be loose. And, like the power steering, the tension adjusting harware was jimmy rigged.
So many face palms with this truck.
I pulled off the hardware from the spare engine, cleaned up the treads with a wire prush & Tap and Die set.

    No more squealing.
So many problems I encounted the customer falls in the trap of thinking it's something really complicated causing the problem and often it isn't. I seem to do the same thing sometimes.

All these experiences can help keep us humble eh? lol

Pics of the old and current alternator hardware.

Glad you got it figured out! That feeling of accomplishment makes the busted knuckles so worth it.

I turned around and we're almost down to a bare frame.
I have someone interested in the rear portion of frame. It actually looks usable. The crap toyota sprayed on frames they did not replace is flaking off everywhere so the metal looks pretty scaled but it's actually solid.

Did a trip a few years ago, started here in Georgia, crossed the border in Maine, all the way east to PEI then took the trans Canada all the way to the coast in BC. Some nice country you're in and an enjoyable build thread you got going there.:canada:

Today I swapped the rear diff from my parts truck to my truck.
I put my rear diff in the carrier from the parts truck so I can sell it.
Basically I did that job twice, massive pain to clean 4 diff surfaces, clean the inside of two carriers, prep and pull 4 axles.

I've been a bit lax with taking pictures, I use my phone to stream music to my shop stereo so it breaks up my flow to clean up my hands and go get it every time, picture(s), return it as it was and go back to work. Enough complaining, I'll get back to taking pictures eventually.

I went in to the dealership this morning to have the spare tire carrier recall preformed on the truck.
And I ended up taking this out.
