This regular looking power steering fluid has been leaking out of the replacement rack since removing it from the parts truck. I understand that dex II or III ATF is the only fluid our systems can use.
Why would this have been used without an apparent problem?

Today I am swapping the steering rack. I have been putting this off like the plague.
So far all bolts and nuts removed with zero issues.
I have the PS pump in and out lines, OTRE and Steering left to go.

So power steering rack was installed successfully yesterday.
Although I researched this process to death before doing it, here are the things I learned:

    - When reinstalling the rack a second person is highly recommended because several things need to align and pressure needs to be applied in at least three directions at the same time. I had a meltdown and walked away. Eventually my brother in law stopped in and he gave me a hand, I only needed him for 5-10 minutes to get it in place enough so it was aligned and not falling down. Then I was able to get the lines on, steering spline in fully and fasten the nuts and bolts.

    - Alignment is pretty important after swapping the rack. I aligned mine by adjusting my OTRE by eye and then taking it out for a test drive. It took several goes but it's straight as can be. I will need to get it aligned but at least it's not pulling and the steering wheel is straight while driving straight.

Glad I finally did it, now I am on to the next thing, drivers side UBJ. I just did the passengers so the procedure is fresh in mind.
