m18 surge bare tool is $169 right now…

Has anyone used one of the M12 or M18 hedge trimmers? I already own a very nice Echo pole hedge trimmer but am contemplating buying a Milwaukee handheld one as well.

I have both and really like them. Got the m12 off ebay for $125 new and the m18 for $99 from a HD sale.

They both have good power and come with sharp blades. They power through anything that fits in the blade spaces to get cut.

Those are great prices, I will keep a eye out for the m18 if it goes on sale that cheap again. Is your m18 18 inch or 24 inch? A quick look makes me think they are the same tool but with longer blades.

I didn't know there is an 18" so just checked. It is the 24" that was $99 at HD last summer after return of the paired battery. Neither the m12 nor m18 bog under load nor have the blades noticeably dulled after a year of use. The safety switch on the m12 is a bit annoying when upside down & left handed, so keep thinking to fix that somehow. But still favorite tools.

I’ve been thinking I wanted the M18 blower to help with drying off my vehicles after a DIY car wash. The expoAF GX drips water from all the bolt ons forever #firstworldproblems. The 18 hour Home Depot power tools sale caught my eye & sure enough I found a hackable deal that brought the blower down to $112.

But then I enrolled in YouTube university and did not like what I saw. About 1 minute of runtime per aH of battery!? The guy blowing dry leafs off his deck was only able to move them if they were within 2-3’ of the tip.

I think I’ll see about the M18 vacuums. The packout model has better stats but for 50% more money. I’m seeing about 3 minutes runtime per aH. And if it can pull double duty sucking AND blowing then that’s 2 in 1 for my use ;)

Eh, I use my M18 blower all the time.

    Great investment.

the power isn’t my biggest concern it’s the runtime. I don’t have anything bigger than 4ah so I’d be left using 3 batteries per car wash or spending hundreds on a 12ah. Not sure the math maths in either case.

I use mine for minutes at a time, on full power, with the same battery at least twice a week and haven't charged that battery for a long time now.

If you don't have many Milwaukee tools, then I can understand why the lack of batteries cause they're practically given to you on a lot of promo deals (or tool hacks).

Anyway, the runtime has been a non-issue for me and I only have 5AH batteries and a few 3AH HO batteries. I use the 3AH HO on the blower.

Had me wondering what my battery was -

    20230708_105143.jpg

Mind you I leaf blow a minimum of once a week due to construction debris, wind blowing over dirt (we have fields near us), and getting rid of crud from the pigeons that live on our roof so that's a lot of usage.

Haven't charged the battery in a few months now.

Love my m18 blower! I only have 5ah batteries and it works great for clearing off the deck and sidewalk. I have a gas one for my long driveway and yard.

I have the one battery m18 blower and would not recommend it with a battery smaller then 5ah, I have 2 of the 8ah xc batteries and use 1.5 of them for 40 minutes of blowing.

i've got the oldest version of the blower. i've got 2 6-8 year old 'xc' batteries, 3.0?. those barely last one 15 minute time to blow off the cars rear window louvers. but my newest 1-2 year old 5.0/6.0 batteries will last plenty long doing the same task-- usually only worth 1 bar. less than half a pack to blow off the driveway and front walk after mowing, and blow dry the louvers.

for leaves, it sucks. i just use a rake. snow sucks to most times. but it's inherent to the design. i've thought of necking down/ovalizing the opening to increase the airspeed, but it's just not worth it for my needs.

Picked up a new M12 Fuel Surge Impact. Much better than the other that I had problems with.
