Ah you are probably right, I'm selfishly just thinking of the Tacoma over here and forgot these apply to the tundra and 4-runner as well. :anonymous:

YESSSS I’d love a flip version with a blank for my front door or that one “key” you just gotta carry around. Ive always rocked a Keyport since they started on Kickstarter buuut a “smart fob” with a blank would be perfect

Flip key concept is really nice. The extra bulk isn’t that considerable, but once you have your hands on a 3rg gen Minimalist already...3FC5B790-E7BD-491E-ABBE-5DC0EEC19180.jpg

    Cheers :)

Cement and black buttons are such a smooth look! I hate to say it, but I did break down and buy some red buttons but I can't help but like the "blackout" look :)

For awhile I thought MESO discriminated against cement minimalist keyfobs because every other color had a photoshop quality "profile" picture on his website listing EXCEPT for cement.. it wasn't up close, kinda far back and off-set. I appreciate he finally got that changed and they are all the same :p

IF do develop a smart flip fob I am sure you will get a fair amount of interest.

Enough to offset cost of molding?? I would think so but it may be close.

I have an AT and as yet have not jumped on a minimalist fob, just because I have other priorities ATM. (puddle pods) The differential in customer cost may be the big stone on the scales. If the cost was close I personally would most likely choose flip out. I know a local locksmith that will cut keys very reasonably so that cost is a non issue, but having the hard key with me at all times (outside the truck) is a nice safety net that the OEM or a flip out has over the minimalist. Admittedly, I have only used to pull out OEM key once after reading posts complaining that the tailgate was keyed differently than the doors. Dead batteries happen at inopportune times. Nobody wants to be locked out of the truck away from home and having to call for help cause you do not have the physical key. The odds may be low, but Murphy can be a real ass-hat if you try to bend his rules. The extra bulk vs the minimalist is not really an issue as I only need physical keys when leaving the house and when I work odd hours at the office.

For normal around town daily driving the minimalist meets most everyone's needs. However, when you go on a vacation, road trip, over landing, off road, etc....this is where the metal key may be needed and recovery without one can be difficult or expensive. The other option would be to have a minimalist plus a physical key of some sort cut and add it to my key chain or pocket. This option would eliminate the "minimalist" design by adding bulk.

As for the cover/logo "button", my preference would be for a "Meso", Toyota Logo, custom option, or something rather than only a "TRD".

Just putting it out there @MESO we all love your work and the opportunity to share our opinions during the design process. :hattip:

I have the all in one key for my tc. I know that the shell has the engine immobilizer thingy in it. IDK how the tacoma's key works but i assume they have an immobilizer too and its built into the case and not the chip. I know for the tC to get a flip out key you have to "destroy" the stock key to pull the immoblizer RFID thingy.

Just a thought and seems like a con for both sides, stick out and flip out.

Either way you slice it, your transponder(“RFID thingy”) will have to be transferred or replaced. You can cut it out if you original fob but it is a delicate process. My plan is to offer A stock immobilized chip with the fobs. So if you are going to get you key cut anyway, they would just program it at the same time. Yes it will add costs, but NO modification would be needed or alter your stock remote fob

I'm in for the flip out! Also, another suggestion that may be too complicated: Out the front, slider key? Think Benchmade Infidel... You'd have all my money!
