Local locksmith cut mine for $2. I took it in fully assembled.

I have had customers telling me they are getting quoted $50-75. This is insane. Maybe they are thinking a transponder has to be programmed too. But it really should be $10-15 MAX to cut a key. It’s not rocket science, so don’t get hosed.

No shit! And, I didn't destroy eight other things in the process. Not normal at all.

Of course, oil change coming up this weekend. I'll likely drain the ATF by accident to make up for it.

I am good to go - Went to a key place that specializes in car fobs. $10 If you’re the Raleigh Durham area highly recommend Key Harbor - Crabtree Valley Mall Located outside the mall in a sep storefront. Will be looking for those red buttons soon Meso!

Yeah - I couldn't believe what they had on display - not sure if they are ordering knock off fobs, but they had OEM looking fobs and I'm guessing for the fraction of a price of dealers. They do programming too.

The cute chick working there didn't hurt either.

Has it been asked if the blank can be cut to duplicate any key?

At a local lock smith now...took key blanks in with no fob.

They are charging me $10 bucks to cut two keys, and sold me 2 transponder chips we cut out of some bad key cuts they had in the junk drawer. Programming both of them for $40.

Guess I can delete that Tactrix cable from my shopping cart. :D

Edit: They couldn't get the extra chips programmed..dunno if it's user error, their programmer, or the chips. I kept the chips will try to dig into it more. For now I'll probably just carefully cut out my transponders.

Well, I was all gung ho to attack my key with a matt knife but these guys got me all anxious. So of course I ordered a couple keys and the local locksmith said he could cut them AND program them for $65 for the first one...

    That seems fair to me.

Plus if I take it to home depot and the guy fubars the key with the automated machine then I'm SOL and will be calling up Meso begging for replacement parts shipped as fast as the fob was.

Just did mine today, the transponder was really glued in there... I had to destroy my fob to get it out. BUT on the plus side, since the fob was done for, I cut the key out too, cut it and dremeled it down to the same shape of the blank and just used that instead. No need to go get a key cut and works 100%! Might need some loctite on the set screw too.

Only nit pick would be wish it came with a red panic button too :(
