Just thinking out loud here, would it be doable to rotate the slim key 90 degrees and have it insert under the fob along the center line of the fob? This way you keep the fob and key while minimizing the width of the fob. Downside is that it will make your design a touch taller than the prototype currently is.

Maybe don't fully encase the key in plastic, but have a groove under the fob and a retention for the key somehow.

I'd still buy one without the key, but wondering if there's a way to have the best of both worlds.

Some pics of my thoughts on a key location option (of course using your super awesome minimalist fob design instead):

Also, I agree that making your own buttons makes sense. The factory ones are nice but they seem like a pain to replicate in design and/or design your fob housing to use them.

Definitely interested in this. I hate how cheap the keyfob feels and the split ring location being offset. The AJT design just copied it. Beat their price tag and you will have tons of interest.

Well..my plan was going to integrate a bottle opener, but it's just going to add bulk.(which is what I'm trying to get away from) But I changed a few things; made the top clasp hidden, put the bolts in from the bottom(so they are hidden). lightened up the sides, and decided to make my own buttons. IMO they compliment the design better.

By key fob case do you mean the whole lock/unlock/alarm thing? Kinda like that guy trying to make a credit card keyless entry from the Lexus key? I only really ever use the little key in my fob to lock the glove compartment...so a couple times way back when I got the truck.

I broke mine by carrying key on it...now I leave the keys in the door and only carry the remote.

    Nice work!
Do you have plans to color match them like your headlight plates? I think getting one in calvary blue would be sweet!

Yup. Planning to have all color matched available. Thinking about doing the metal bars in different anodizing colors as well. Would really set it off

    Not enough.
The smaller, all around, that the fob can be made, the better IMO. If it was strong enough I'd just epoxy dip the whole board with a key ring on it.

@mesojdm What's the possibility of adding "TRD" to the fob? Would Toyota come through with infringement like they did with AJT?

You don’t want to epoxy dip it lol. The buttons would be all glued and no way to change out the battery. This current designs is about as small as I can go with the given perimeters. And still need a little meat around it for protection against dropping it.
Sure why not. Gamble with Toyota legal :duel:

Greate design. I hope to see it with the TRD before old man yota gets involved.

And I think I've got a clean solution to the bottle opener I was hoping to incorporate!

It's going to be laser cut from stainless or Ti...so no worries about strength or durability.

And if you don't want that you can opt for a plain keyring. Easy swap:D
