If I want to comfortably fit 285/70R17 on my 2006 tacoma with no trimming at all, how much should it be lifted from stock height?

I'm on skinny 33s (255/80/17) and a 2 inch lift and I only rub when aired down.

285s are wider though. In addition to lift you also need to be thinking about wheel offset. Even with proper wheel fitment and a healthy 2-3 inch lift you could still end up rubbing at times. Especially if you want to flex the suspension and "offroad" a little.
