Man, some people on this forum are so... defensive, putting it lightly. Y'all act like you researched your truck for years before buying it, knowing every little feature and shortcoming, and take a dump on anyone who has the gall to say something against the legendary Tacoma. So what's wrong with wanting to chat with other owner's about that?

OP is absolutely right that some things could have been done better, and is well within his rights to hold it up against another foreign brand (from the same country, incidentally). If he was comparing it to a G-Wagon, there might be something to say, but he's comparing it to a relatively middle-of-the-road SUV, and y'all are losing your damn minds. The cut-sheets for both vehicles probably list things like "Remote Start", "Lane Assist", "Adaptive Cruise Control", etc. Did you honestly know before you bought yours that the adaptive cruise turned off under 30mph? Can you disagree that it would be way nicer if it went down to full stop like the CRV?

I personally think Toyota mailed it in with the 3rd gen Tacoma, at least the early years. The safety and luxury features are all lovely on the surface, but their functionally in every day living falls just short enough to make you wonder if they did the bare minimum to be able to put "Adaptive Cruise Control" on the cut-sheet and have it function during a test-drive in order to sell the vehicle. I know I'm not the only one frustrated by the ADC's three distance settings: mile, half mile, and quarter mile. I certainly didn't notice that during my test drive.

I personally adore my 2018 Tacoma, but I'm 27 and it was my first new-ish car, so obviously I'm going to be excited to have these cool new tech-y safety features, even if they fall short of a CRV, because I couldn't afford a loaded CRV even if I wanted one. If I was ten or twenty years older, though, I'd certainly be more salty about it, having bought a vehicle that seemed to have all of the same safety features on the surface, but really functioned a little less well during every day life.

Because you define "better" to actually mean better for all. Sure, you and the OP like these features and it might be better for you and him but not the majority because you, like me, can only speak for ourselves. However, sales numbers matter.
As far as researching, I spent over a year gaining knowledge on my last vehicle purchase, reading reviews, watching videos, test driving multiple times, etc. I can honestly say I was quite knowledgeable when I bought the truck. My wife however, took all of a day researching her CR-V. She saw one in a mall parking lot, came home and told me she liked the wheels and color on the new CR-V. This was a Friday. By Saturday evening we had a new CR-V. THEN she started reading about it and reading the owner's manual, sitting in the driveway figuring out all the features, etc. Two different approaches, neither right or wrong. Just be careful not to pre judge because some of us, what did you call us... oh yeah... "diehards" really do know shit before we buy stuff. We are also greater than 1% as you guess in your above quote because pretty much every engineer does this too.

For my next trick I'll say, do you think we'll get a hybrid in the 4th gen? I am sure we will agree that would be a much welcome feature to help save the environment!

Nothing to discuss.

A hybrid is not really good at anything, except for Marketing smoke.

Look into how the primary components used in a hybrid are made..........you will likely discover its not an effective "save the environment" path.

I'll stay with my fossil fuel vehicles and will continue to purchase newer vehicles in this manner for as long as it's available on the market. Not that I don't care about the environment, I do and I try to do what I can to make positive impact. However, I'm not going with the "mainstream" just because it's pushed with little substance to support the argument.

Unlike Generation Y and Generation X workers, many traditionalists have stayed with the same employer throughout their entire working lives. They're less likely to change jobs to advance their careers than younger generations, but they expect the same loyalty in return.

They Respect Authority

Raised in a paternalistic environment, the silent generation was taught to respect authority. Conformity and conservatism are prized. They tend to be good team players. They generally don’t ruffle feathers or initiate conflict in the workplace, and they like to feel needed.

Waste Not, Want Not

Traditionalists tend to be thrifty. These are not folks who are going to trade their cars in every few years. They'll diligently maintain what they own to extend the property's lifespan. Of course, this can become annoying in the workforce, particularly for Millennials who aren't inclined to dry out a sheet of paper towel for reuse later.

The Silent Generation Can Be Tech-Challenged

Don't expect your silent generation employee to be a whiz at operating his new smartphone. Of all the generations active in today's workplaces, traditionalists are the slowest to change their work habits and to adapt to new, more efficient ways of doing things. This is particularly the case when those efficient ways involve technology.

Traditionalists might struggle to learn new technology as it evolves and changes the practice of law, and they might try your younger staff's patience with the need for ongoing instruction in this area.

The flip side is that they often have great one-on-one interpersonal skills because they're more accustomed to dealing with people eye-to-eye. They've honed their abilities to use this to their advantages.

They're Traditional

Traditionalists value old-time morals, safety, security, and consistency. Millennials,

or members of Generation Y (also known as Gen Y) were born between 1982 and 2000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 83.1 million millennials in the U.S., and the Pew Research Center found that millennials surpassed baby boomers (boomers) to become the largest living generation in the United States in 2016.

Millennials are separated from the older generation before them (Generation X) and the generation that followed them (Generation Z).

Millennial Characteristics

As expected by their birth years, the Millennial generation makes up the fastest growing segment of the workforce. The members of this generation are willing to trade high pay for fewer billable hours, flexible schedules, and a better work/life balance. Although older generations may view this attitude as narcissistic or see it as a lack of commitment, discipline, and drive, Millennials have a different idea of workplace expectations. Millennials usually prioritize family over work, and even those who aren't married with children feel the need to be a part of a family and spend time with nieces, nephews, and siblings.

Millennials Are Achievement-Oriented

Nurtured and pampered by parents who didn't want to make the mistakes of the previous generation, millennials are confident, ambitious, and achievement-oriented. They also have high expectations of their employers, tend to seek new challenges at work, and aren't afraid to question authority. Generation Y wants meaningful work and a solid learning curve.

Millennials are Team-Oriented

While growing up, most Millennial boys and girls participated in team sports, playgroups, and other group activities, whether it was soccer or ballet. They value teamwork and seek the input and affirmation of others. Millennials are the true no-person-left-behind generation, loyal and committed. They want to be included and involved.

Generation Y Craves Attention

Generation Y craves feedback and guidance. They appreciate being kept in the loop and often need frequent praise and reassurance. Millennials may benefit greatly from mentors who can help guide and develop their talents. This is where the boomers come in handy because (though mostly retired), they have something to offer and see mentoring millennials is one way they can continue to contribute to the workforce.

Generation Y Is Prone to Job-Hopping

A potential downside of Generation Y workers is that they're always looking for something new and better. It's not uncommon for a millennial to stay with a firm for only two or three years before moving on to a position they think is better. The resumes you receive from millennial job seekers will undoubtedly demonstrate this peppered job history.

Don’t discount members of this generation just because they’ve worked for several firms—these young employees bring with them a variety of experiences. Unlike previous generations, they do not take a job and then hold onto it for as long as humanly possible. Instead, they go out and create a new app or fund a trendy start-up.

The Bottom Line About Millennials

Generation Y possesses many characteristics that are unique in comparison to past generations. They tend to be excited about their jobs, and they will work hard and efficiently. They might approach their superiors as equals more so than previous generations, but companies can take steps to draw a line between supervisor and friend. When that line is drawn, millennials will not only work tirelessly for you, but they will show you the respect due to a supervisor with many years experience.

As an X who leans more traditional..right on.

As an aside in general, I have a single cab Tacoma. Mine didn't even have delay wipers when I bought it. How's that for tech? Haha..I always ask people to name a feature on a vehicle they expect anything made in the past 30 years to have and most don't guess that one but when I explain it tell me they just took for granted it had that.

So can you upgrade the backup camera? I mean if it meant that much to you?

Also I have been really debating Ridgeline vs Tacoma (I have a 120 mile commute). The actual advantages of that are it rides like an SUV (because it is one) and the storage is insane. But the Taco is more fun to drive, way more fun. And The interior is REALLY boring on a Ridgeline. I like my wife's Palisade more that the Ridgeline.
