Every time I went through the automated car washes and I folded the mirrors in, the mirrors would somehow open back up. So i always hand wash from now on.

Just an update ; I just took it to the dealer and they fixed it easily free of charge. I am cancelling my Mister Car Wash membership though. So Yay I get to save 20 bucks a month.:bananadance:

Mine's black, and filthy right now from being at the coast. Might wash it this weekend. After a few days it gets dusty again...

We had a brutal drive through car wash at my old work, the thing would rip door moldings off, break antennas, crack mirror housings, shit one time I even had wiper blades ripped off. I would avoid those types of carwashes in the future.

I had a drive through brush wash was trash my 1994 Jeep Wrangler mirror and those were built pretty tough. I've never trusted Mister Car Wash since they bought out Octopus car wash, premium price for worse service. I get the impression they cut corners every chance they get so they might be running things faster with more opportunity to damage vehicles. I never had anything taken from my Jeep for years when it was Octopus first time at Mister they took my wife's sunglasses of all things. There is another Mom and Pop car wash here that is brushless and priced better but since I bought this truck I just want to do it all on my own. There is a self serve car wash that $1.75 - $2.50 depending on added time and then I dry and detail there or at home. Time wise maybe an hour plus the cost of consumables like 303 Aerospace protectant and glass cleaner. Add another hour or two to polish the exterior every 6 months.

I did some control work for a chain of car washes around here...
They use hydroflouric acid in the pre-cleaners and soap.

The only time I use an automated car wash, that actually makes contact with the vehicle, is in my beater 97 Civic. Don't do it.

We used that in Semiconductor manufacturing it is nasty stuff you don't want to come into contact with it. It will absorb through your skin and cause major issues more so than a burn.

So does the phosphoric acid used in dark sodas such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi and people consume those. If you use a car wash that touches the car (spinning brushes, etc) then DO NOT take a dark colored car through there. Strictly a touchless car wash or a two bucket method hand wash for those if you care about micro scratches and/or marring. Look at the next black car you see at an angle in the sun light and you can tell whether or not the owner takes care of the paint or just runs it through a car wash. My Cement truck doesn't show the scratches hardly at all so it gets the Autobell treatment after every beach trip, but if I forget to fold in the mirrors they get bent backwards and beat up.

I always fold mine. I RTFM when I got my truck and it was in there.

Okay...not sure where you're coming or going with that. Our stomachs produce hydrochloric acid...
    Mucosa Wax FTW?

I just posted what I thought was an interesting tid bit about car washes, not widely known.

Some pre-cleaners are high pH...depends what they're trying to accomplish. It will vary by location and season if you're a cognizant operator.
