If you have BSM l would think twice because you could possibly screw up the position of the sensors and then need a dealer visit to recalibrate.

You won’t screw up anything. I had mine all apart and it worked just fine after I adjusted it. To adjust the bumper you must remove the step pad. When you pull it off you risk breaking some of the clips.

Thanks for all of your input. I will risk breaking the tabs and try to re-adjust it. I work on Japanese sport bikes and am very familiar with delicate hidden plastic tabs!

I adjusted mine on my 2017 after my local dealer said it wasn’t adjustable. I watched videos and read threads on this forum to do it. There is very little room for adjustment so I had to adjust both sides to even it all up. But it’s doable and you’ll feel better. You can push up or release half of the clips for the bumper step pad from below. You’ll see when you look. The other half you just have to pull and it takes some force. Releasing the license plate lights was the hardest part for me. Good luck!

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but if you are concerned about the bumper, try checking the rear wheels. Measuring from the frame, my right wheel sticks out 1/4" more than the left. didn't notice it until I added mud guards. I even re aligned the bed to try and help offset it. Now my bumper is off. Screw it. It's a truck........

Mine's the same...the joys of a US-built truck. You think something like that would have ever been able to leave the Tahara plant??

My 2020 was built in Mexico and is straight. My 2016 was built in Texas and was straight.

It’ll be fine. Just minor cosmetic issues. Probably within the “acceptable” tolerance for the bed and bumper. Steering column thing is odd haven’t heard that one. My bed alignment is pretty good, bumper is slightly misaligned though. Maybe I’ll try to have them align it before warranty is over, but it doesn’t bother me much. When I read about the bumpers pre COVID I looked at about 25 trucks on my dealers lot and all were misaligned lol. It’s like they can’t even accidentally put one on straight.

Sell it and buy something that isn’t a hunk of shit? Tacomas are pretty reasonably priced, comparatively, and a really good value in terms of reliability and resale value. The minor bumper and bed alignment issues are cosmetic, and both have an adjustable range. When building things as complex as a vehicle there is a term called “stacking tolerances”. Some things end up a little off. The bumper isn’t going to fail because it’s slightly askew, the bed isn’t rubbing on the cab is it? It just seems you are upset about it, the trucks are a solid value imo compared to the competition. But life is short, if you think it was built by kids, or don’t trust it, sell it. Or if you just bought it most states have a law where you can cancel the purchase w/in a certain time period. Have not heard of Honda Ridglines having bumper issues.

It’s supposed to be pretty simple to adjust, just a couple of bolts (same with the bed). I think I read you need to pop off the plastic caps though, so probably not an ideal cold weather project (clips breaking etc). I doubt most dealers would even do it honestly. I might try to have them check on it (mines off about 1/2-3/4”). Then again the less the dealer techs touch my truck the better. I mean if the assembly line is kids with legos, most dealer techs are still trying to figure out the put the shape in the correct hole game in my experience (obviously there are many good ones, but they aren’t doing oil changes, and adjusting bumpers).

That is a Catch-22 as MOST of the issues I see in forums I have never experienced, just because it might be a "major" issue in a forum does not correlate to an actual issue real world. People are fast to post negative experiences and perceived issues while those happy and no perceived issues have no motivation to post on forums.

For example, my rear bumper seems to be adjusted correctly.

My work often has me going out to places looking into issues that clients have reported are not working correctly based solely on "Google Tech's" all stating their is an issue. The rule of "The client is always right" does not mean the client is always correct. The client is right as they have a legitimate issue, however they are seldom correct in what that issue is, which (in my field) is often lack of knowledge, google search fixes, or user end point failure.

I would much rather rely on a known trained tech sending in failure points then having to go thru a bunch of false positives that take up a lot of time.

There is almost 1" of play in the bolt hole mounts for the rear bumper. Are y'all sure it's just the plastic?

Either way I would just adjust it myself until it looked the way I wanted.

    Check build thread!
Only acceptable solution is to buy a 3000 dollar aftermarket steel beast of a bumper.
