Hi first post I have a 99 tacoma 2.4l with 441000 miles it has an oil leak on the harmonic balancer seal after pulling balancer and replacing seali noticed a Crack in the balancer I have new part to replace. does the balancer just slide in? I noticed a small piece missing in the groove of old balancer should I look for it in motor or just replace oil? would this be the cause of misfire ( p0301)? compression is fine I did plugs ,wires and injectors. had plenty of power but oil.leak got progressively worse. any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

I used a flat steel bar that I drilled holes in for 2 of the 4 retainer bolts and big hole for the socket. The bar was installed from below and hit the frame to keep it from turning. I am sure other peeps have better ways.

    IMO
The P0301 not related (anything is possible!!!)

the steel to steel (and woodruff key) area not likely to fail
It’s the ‘rubber’ part in between the inner and outer rings of HB fails
    Creates a wobble

I would replace HB if already removed

    as far as crank bolt

I just did opposite of starter jolt method
If u have 5spd, could put in fifth, parking brake on…..
    Or do what manual says

how did u get CS bolt off????

You're suppose to replace that crank bolt, supposedly one time use.

I have reused mine, just want to be mindful.......if that backs off, its gonna be a bad day.

Did you replace the front main behind it? Another common leak point is the oil pump cover gasket. Timing cover sometimes. My 2.7 was leaking from all those areas.

The oil pump cover gasket is notorious for leaking. It gets baked, I would wager its leaking and if you have the balancer off still I would go ahead and do it. Cheap gasket and LCE sells allen head replacements because you will strip the screws in it.

It is JIS but you will 100% need an impact, one of those hand impacts from harbor freight but there isn't much space in there. My hammer drill was about to get out like half and I stripped the other half.

I know that pain... RR of my timing cover to replace the leaking gaskets took 2 weekends probably 50 hours. Had no idea what I was doing. No spare parts and fired right up
