Well, i finally pulled off my glove box and was going to change the cabin filter. Am I missing something, or is my cabin filter not there? I guess they forgot to put one in my truck!
    See pic.

Also, what is that dongle looking thing on the side of my glove box?
    2nd pic.

The dongle thingy is keeps your glove box from slamming open if you hook it up, like on a screen door. Mine never stays connected so I leave it unhooked.

Nice. I can see all of the dirt in the filter compartment. You can see where I wiped my fingers.

That dongle thing was never hooked up either. it was flopping around when I dropped the box.

Where does the air get pulled from in the fan? In the cabin or under the hood? Or depends on if re-circ is on?

'05s never came with filters. That began in 06. You can either buy a replacement one, or build one yourself.
Here's how I made a washable cabin air filter: The detachable (and stays detached) air shock for the glove box can be fixed with either a screw installed between the tabs where it falls off, or by sticking some foam tape in between the slats of the tab instead.

By now, if you haven't installed a filter, you'll have lots of junk in both your fan box and probably beyond. So get one installed! But drop the fan and clean out the debris first.

The air box comes in underneath the cowl directly above the filter.

Thanks for the write-up. I will make one this weekend. Now i know why soon after I clean my truck interior dust builds up quickly on the dash.

I decided to see if mine had one after reading this. I did not have a filter, but the door was there. Did you remove it and find no filter, or is it just open like that??? I picked up a replacement filter at the dealer and put it in, make a lot of diffrence in the air. Nice and clean now.
