I picked up my new Tacoma with Trd sport upgrade package about a week ago. Mine was one of the first three 2024 Tacomas the dealership received and I was the first to pick mine up. The portable speaker was missing from all of them. The dealership acknowledged we are owed the speaker, although no time table for delivery. Another bummer was that the second key is dead. I guess one last gripe is the vehicle felt like they got it off the truck and handed it to me without doing a final spiffing up or look over. That’s just a feeling. I don’t have proof but the car was a little dusty inside.

I post this because I am wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this? And, any recommendations beside wait it out?

worst i had with my brand new 3rd gen was it already had 50 miles on it, like what the heck. Not sure what I would do in your situation besides wait and maybe write Toyota an angry email.

Most dealers do a terrible job detailing. I always request they don't detail a vehicle when I buy it. I would clean it up yourself or hire a professional to do it. Second key should be covered under warranty. Speaker you'll get in time. I wouldn't let it sour your experience of getting a new truck.

I have seen several post on T4G about the speakers being removed by dealer personnel and being on sales guys desk. My money is on that someone at the dealer took it. As far as the key being dead...more than likely a cheap chinese battery.

Nothing sounds like a show stopper. Clean it and move on. Keep it away from the dealer.

The internet is not the place to fix this.

    Your dealership is.

He asked if his has happened to anyone else and recommendations on how to proceed. Where did he indicate he was trying to fix this on the internet?

Thanks all. This is my first new car and I wasn’t sure how big of a deal to make of this. One update is that they gave us the wrong key. So that is resolved. I appreciate the perspectives.

My bad. I mean he was asking how to proceed, on the internet, so it seemed obvious to me.

And he already had a commitment for resolving the speaker. And now he has reported back that the key is resolved. Both at the dealer. Amazing huh?

@IowaBrian glad you got both those items resolved fairly quickly and hopefully w/o much hassle. I know we often complain about dealers (many times deservedly so) but I hope you have a good one that will continue to take care of you.

Did you get 4 bed cleats? That’s what was missing when I bought my Tacoma. My dealer gave me 4 bed cleats from another Tacoma on their lot. Kicking the can down the road I guess.

One summer, ‘I was a “lot boy” at a Dodge dealership, paid something like $2.25 an hour. From what I could tell I was also dealer prep. I did not clean the vehicles. There was washers but it was not routine service.

Be demanding early on with anything that is not perfect. The money you spent was perfect, so should be the truck. Safe travels.

Everyone makes this mistake once. Never buy a vehicle at sunset or later.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
The speaker should have been documented at sale, hopefully the dealer doesn't become a problem.
