My case on my 2017 is like Sammy Sosa Said! I was given two key fobs, and a dedicated tailgate key! All of mine work on the tailgate and that's the way they should have made all these trucks . . . Every Year!

No, if the key in the fob works there's no need for an extra key to keep up with.

    1.Take key out of Fob.
    2. Put key in tailgate lock.
    3. Turn Key to lock/unlock.
    4. Remove key from tailgate and put back in Fob.

I have a 18' trd sport and the fab key on opens the door and the second key only opens the tailgate and the glove box. I am hoping I can get copies made for both of these keys at a local hardware store. Has any one had any luck getting any luck getting copies of these key made by an outside source (other than a dealer)?

Well just to add another data point. My 2018 off road came with two key Fobs and a tail gate key in the glove box, all three keys lock the tailgate.

The number that is cast into the body is not likely your key code. It is probably a mold number.

Your key code is the B5DAA.

The key inside the fob doesn’t work? I thought that worked on the tailgate and glovebox.

Nope. Mine is a 2016 with push button start. The door key is a laser cut key and the tailgate key is different. Going to check the bag with the tire change tools and hope for the best!

Yes at first I thought it was the 4 digit number but was thinking the same thing when I took the picture and realized it wasn’t stamped in to the casting. My eyes are not as good as they used to be!

Maybe after a certain while, Toyota decided to make the keys all the same.

I just wanted to say thanks for this thread

I've been using the key flob key for a long time but worry it will stop locking into key fob. I went to dealer ask if they can make me a copy they said no but did not mention I should have a dedicated key or they could order one

    Thanks again found my key
