Agreed, big thanks to Jeff, and the other TW members who have added substance to this discussion thread.

I agree that there is some ambiguity in the Toyota Canada promotional materials concerning the exact specifications of the standard "towing package", nonetheless, on the totality of the evidence there is a compelling case to be made that the auxiliary ATF cooler is included in what Canadian 2020 buyers ordered.

The fact that earlier model-years and some 2020 models included the auxiliary ATF cooler as standard equipment is perhaps most significant evidence. All of the other information referred to above is also persuasive that 2020 buyers could reasonably expect that their contract included that part. Additionally, there is a legal principle in contracts interpretation known as 'contra proferentem', a latin term which means in plain language that ambiguities in contracts are to be resolved in favour of the party who did not draft the contract (i.e. the weaker party, in this case the buyer).

I get it that Toyota may have its own arguments to make suggesting that they never committed to including the auxiliary ATF cooler in all 2020 builds, but I also think that evidence supporting the owners' position is stronger and more compelling. By way of analogy, what if the vehicle was delivered missing the parking brake? None of the materials indicates that a parking brake is included as standard equipment, it is superfluous but helpful to the other braking systems and all of the other models have one. Interpreting the contract to allow Toyota to delete a parking brake mid-year without notice would be absurd wouldn't it?

Ultimately it will be up to each of us to decide how far to take our dispute. My main point is that I don't intend to roll-over on this one, and that I consider myself well positioned to to force the issue to be resolved in my favour if necessary. Based on past experience I am convinced that a well-informed, confident and assertive consumer is more likely to succeed in a dispute of this kind than one who approaches the problem thinking that they are asking for a favour or special treatment from a vendor. So far my dealership has treated me well, and hopefully this will resolve amicably. Regardless, knowing your rights and the evidence is a good place to start from in that conversation.

Well, I wish you luck, as I don't think this change was rolled out very well. However, their web site and other materials do have the fine print stating that things can change without notice. Brochures and web sites are not part of the contract. The window sticker is, it describes what you are buying, and they are pretty clear about what is included in the tow package. I see no ambiguity there.

A parking brake is a necessity, every car has one. An aux cooler is not. A well-informed consumer would have known that they deleted the aux cooler.

Nice install on the lightbar, I see that you opted to keep your air-dams. I did as well.

Just picked up my 2020 SR5 and no trans cooler. Need to take a look tomorrow for the trans lines so I can properly install an aftermarket one.
What is this part and is it transmission related.

Hey guys, I sold my Tacoma over a year ago and bought a 2019 Tundra. After I bought it I realized it did not have a transmission cooler even though the window sticker said it did. Long story short Toyota removed the transmission cooler out of all 2019+ Tundras without letting anyone know nor changing their window stickers. After seeing my transmission temperatures in the high 200's I developed a solution. I'm not sure if Toyota did the same thing here with the Tacoma but if there is enough interest I can build transmission cooler kits for you guys. Check out my thread on the Tundra forum below.

06/2020 Baja Factory TRDOR here and no cooler.

My vin specific parts catalogue shows I should have one per the parts counter at my dealer. They’re looking into it and will get back to me.

Of course it's worth complaining about when you add the price of it with labor. Not to mention you did pay for it if it's on your sticker

I was told trucks built after 03/20 have the atf lines running through the condenser.

Some are missing the point. Sure you can put on an aftermarket cooler but that's not the real point. I would certainly make them correct there mistake or put me in another truck that has it if it's going to be a money pit for Toyota to install it. Who wants a toe package without it and they paid for it on the sticker as well

If I am not mistaken the Window Sticker just says "Transmission Cooler" which the truck technically has, if it says Auxiliary Transmission Cooler then you definitely have a point.

My taco was built the same place as the 1 that's missing the external cooler. Mine came from baja, Mexico and my sticker is from 12/19 and it's a 20 model year auto v6 trd OR

The parts catalog doesn't list it for any trucks that were manufactured after 03/2020. Toyota doesn't really have VIN-specific parts catalogs. They have a VIN filter that narrows down options from the catalog using the VIN-specific data, but that doesn't make parts that aren't listed otherwise appear.

Has anyone towed with a 2020 without a cooler and observed trans temperatures?

    I'm getting ready to buy a B&M 70264 cooler.

I have a manual transmission, so I'm just asking out of curiosity, but do the 2020 Tacomas come with the auxiliary electric fan that was part of the AC TSB for earlier models?

Save $40-50 and get a Tru-cool by Long Manufacturing, instead of paying for the B&M name.

‘Long Manufacturing’ is stamped on the B&M coolers and they are identical to the Tru-Cool coolers.
Get a more sturdy stacked plate model instead of a plate and fin cooler.B1902294-BDE9-48B3-A801-0F1D7CDA8A7A.jpg

No, the auxiliary fan is only used on Mexico-spec (2016-2020) or Costa Rica-spec (2020) trucks from the factory. The TSB (Toyota USA TSB 0063-18, Toyota Canada TSB 5108) to add it applies to 2016-2020 trucks.

Thanks, Jeff. I was just thinking that maybe they had added it and decided the auxiliary cooler was no longer needed. As hot as it is in the Southeast, you'd think they'd go ahead and add it to US spec trucks for those more southerly regions, at least. Guess there are few enough people who complain and get the TSB performed that they come out ahead.

Just finished the install of a B&M 70264 external transmission cooler on my 2020 SR5. It sucks that a truck with a tow package doesn't come with a aux trans cooler.
I tow a camper in the mountains so I'm not taking any chances.
The install was pretty easy, the hardest part was locating the best install location.
I was able to plug all of the lines so I only lost a few drops of fluid and I filled the new cooler with trans fluid. The only transmission fluid lost was in the lines, so no need to top off the transmission fluid.
The new cooler is bigger than the stock cooler that used to be installed, so it should do a good job keeping things cool.

Looking down from the top you can see the cooler has plenty of space front and back.
