there is an internal pipe with coils that the ATF passes in that goes through the radiator.

So a failure of the inner tube wall results in the mixing of ATF and Engine Coolant? :frusty:

Many manufacturers use this method as it heats fluid up quickly to operating temp.

Maybe that, or its motor oil and coolant because the head gasket is shot.

I am definitely disappointed about hearing this news, this is pricey. Are aftermarket options just as expensive?

Ignore the "ermahgerd OEM" clowns above. DIY will cost ya under $75 and take 30 mins. That's assuming you have the most basic of skills with hand tools.

    I don’t think that’s quite correct.

I agree Toyota should remove that line from the towing package listing, but it is still factually correct, your truck did in fact come with an ATF cooler, it just came with 1 instead of 2 like the old ones did.

There was an article posted a while back explaining that Toyota felt that an external cooler wasn’t required for adequate cooling. So technically the transmission oil is still cooled, just without a separate, dedicated cooler. That’s the way I interpreted it.

Their wording of “oil cooler” is definitely misleading, but still accurate.

A complete parts list for adding the OEM Transmission Cooler. This is exactly what I was looking for! I may be buying a 2023 TRD O/R towards the end of this year & this one of the 1st mods on my list. I'm sure there are better & cheaper aftermarket options but in this case I'd like to stick to OEM.

    Thank you @Jeff Lange

The oem cooler is on the small side.

Also, if you're operating down south where the summers get extremely hot, you'd be better served with a cooler setup including a fan.
