It does sound like you'll be more satisfied with a full size DC or suv. Keep in mind the GVW for any suvs you might consider since the softer ride many opt for comes with a decreased payload(can easily carry 6 kids but dangerous with 6 adults.

If I were in your shoes? Bite the bullet. Get a DC. You will spend money on a tonneau cover, shell, or whatever ghetto rig you can think of, then realize all that money spent should have gone to a vehicle that suits your needs. $5k is nothing. Although, you can also look at an SR trim to close that gap a bit more.

But seriously, an AC for more than 1 passenger? The DC already lack room back there, IMO. You may even look at trading for a Tundra Crewmax with how tall you are, and considering the passengers and cargo.

Did this back in high school can confirm it is (or at least WAS) legal in CA, but check your state laws, kids will love it :)

    1-shark-tank-products-bedryder-pickup-truck-seats-1b.jpg

Or just take the $5k hit and move on, in the big picture its really not THAT much $. Would be much worse had you bought literally any other vehicle as the Tacoma's resale value is bested only by the wrangler.

But just another reason why LEASING is a great option, had you leased your truck (in most states) you would NOT have paid all the taxes up front which would make your current payoff $thousands$ less than it is right now, that $5k hit would be half that, same goes if you sell the truck at the end of the lease you pocket more $, same if the truck is totalled in the first 3 years you pocket more $.... but people that still don't understand leasing would NEVER lease because its just "renting" a car lol.

The kid will need his own vehicle before you know it. I'd keep the AC and get a used SUV or something that will both fit the needs now and can be his 1st vehicle in a few years.

Damn, Id keep the AC cab to avoid hauling smelly/sweaty football players. :D All jokes aside i think a camper shell/cover would solve your gear issue even maybe a soft topper. I disagree with needing a full size truck if you really wouldn't benefit from it other than the kids are more comfortable in the back on the weekends. DC would work they're teenage boys its ok if they touch knees and are little uncomfortable. Other than that there is no real solution other than getting a bigger truck.

I have to agree with the guys about a DC and 6ft+ people in back. It's not going to be comfortable.

If there can be a 2 truck trip which you can use most or of all your rear area and bed, then I see that being a better resolution or just renting something for planned events.

Why are there two identical threads on this....identical except the other thread says the dealer wants 5100, not 5200 to offset price. Am I missing something?

Also, go tundra. I’m 6’2” and have no interest in riding in the back of a DC tacoma. Especially with an equally tall driver with his seat back.

I feel like I made a mistake with the AC too. I wish I got the DC. I know I wont be making that mistake again. I dont like the way the AC doors open. It is a pain when in a parking lot with cars on both sides, it makes it difficult to load/unload, especially with a shopping cart.

Get a double can Tundra. It has more room than double cab Taco and still has the 6.5 ft bed.

Access cabs are cool, the DC short bed looks like a Ford Explorer Sport trac

Double cab you can make work for short trips around town with 4-5 adults. No long road trips like that and the rear passengers aren't going to be comfy but you can make it work. I use my DCSB as a shuttle vehicle whitewater kayaking regularly and often have 5 folks in the cab for 20-30 min drives, sometimes with more in the bed of the truck depending on where we're going.

Yes a full-size would be ideal, but maybe you don't want/need a big truck otherwise. I'd love a full-size too but I like the handling and nimbleness of a taco for tight downtown parking. offroading, etc., so I deal with the smaller cab (and so does my wife, happily)...
