First off, you done good. You made it there and back without crashing and screwing up your truck and you made out without getting hurt. You did most things right. Two small pieces of advice. First you should always try to go off roading with some one in another off road vehicle. The very least you should have someone accompany you in your truck. Second when you go off-roading you should always let someone (who you trust and is responsible) know where you are going and when you plan to be back. If not back by that time they should be instructed to call the authorities. Doing those two things saves lives.
    Thanks for sharing. Great pics.

I just thought of something else to add to all of this...

Being physically fit enough to deal with the stress of all this and then do fairly intense physical labor for an hour and a half was also a major part of being able to get out of the situation I got myself into.

I cant imagine being wildly overweight and out of cardiovascular shape and having to chop that tree up.

Take care of your health guys and gals, never know when you might need to perform.

On that ice i think maxtrax would've been like the old trick of putting lunch trays under the rear wheels of a FWD car and locking up the e-brake lol.

But in more thawed out conditions they would/could make a difference.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I’d have been so scared you couldn’t have hammered a finishing nail into my ass! Good save!

the outsloping glare ice makes me pucker just thinking about it.
Experience allows us to constantly reassess the thought process that keeps us moving forward instead of turning back.
ive hugged the ditchline a few times to get off the glare ice.
I will invest in tire chains when i can
    nice work!
    good story

Experience is the best teacher. You learned a good lesson and now you are teaching that lesson to us. I to don’t listen to myself and get into some stinky situations. On as often as before though. Being prepared is key. I’m always prepared to walk out if it comes to that. I always pack my gear up every for a little 3 hour trip into the woods.
Glad you made it out to tell us your tale.

Sorry for the late response, currently I'm in NE Ohio. But i'm going to be moving to Phoenix soon.

Thanks! A friend of mine made it, he's started a little etsy shop 'twelve21woodworks' I think its been a sort of art therapy for him after loosing his daughter in a car accident.

Well that's a sucky reason to need therapy. Tell him sorry and nice work. I aspire to be that good one day.
