I've been doing that in our 2014 RAV4 for years (only in the summer). Only one qt of 5W-30 with the other four quarts of 0W-20. Never a problem in the 198,000 miles we've been doing it. Doesn't burn a drop of oil. No worries; but then we're out of warranty on the vehicle.

There's more request's for iPone oil lately, many are getting tired from smelling klotz, which has been all the rage for years.

ipone is a new one for me, never heard of it.

it’s motorex, motul, and liquid moly in the enduro dirt bike world. I just run whatever the manufacturer suggests, just incase there is a warranty issue.

Edit: noticed on my post it says “difficult” additives. Instead of “different”.

And spell check is supposed to make us appear smarter… lol!

IPone is suppose to give off a strawberry aroma. It's been around for years, sold here in New England, and a really good oil. Till just lately, it's no longer sold in the u.s. I believe. You'd have to order it from Canada.
When I raced bikes back in the day, I was sponsored by spectro lubricants.

I just heard back from Amsoil, so here is the final ruling on the original question of whether you can safely mix Amsoil SS 5w30 with Amsoil SS 0w20.

“These oils are compatible with one another, so mixing them would not cause any harm. The only effect is the viscosity, which you noted would drop a little bit.

    We hope this is helpful.”

As expected, this confirms that there are no issues with this mixture. Hopefully people can learn from this.

How cool is that? An oil thread with an actual conclusion. One of those things you never expect to see in your lifetime.

Not so fast. The 0W20 I'm using is Signature Series, which is their top level protection package and designed for extended drain intervals. The 5W30 I sold and was planning to mix was their OE series which is a lower protection level and uses the manufacturers oil drain interval recommendations. In the OP I stated same brand, meaning Amsoil. I don't think I ever mentioned different additive package/protection level. I wasn't trying to be deceptive, i just didn't think it mattered until I started thinking about it. So are the additive packages compatible? This is really splitting hairs, but if I was going to mix this is the question I would have asked. Like I said, the FAQs could easily answer these question but I found them (the FAQs) ambiguous. I've always thought Amsoil products to be top notch, but as a company they border on shall I say 'mysterious'.
But Thx @goingplacesanddoingstuff for making the effort.

Do you wash out the engine every time you change brands?
Even with the filter change, a quart or more of oil is left in the engine. So additives from different brands mix anyways.

It’s not going to be an issue. But I responded with this question back to them. They’re just going to say it’s technically fine but that it won’t give full protection of the SS line.

I’m hoping we can get this thread locked with the final answer in place, even though it has been answered several times already.

Just heard back. Like I predicted, the oils are compatible:

The OE or XL will also be compatible with the Signature Series if mixed.
