Hey guys, looking for serious replies for any mod that increases HP. I already have my truck OVtuned but with running 33's and some armor she still feels sluggish.

Obviously I know that a Taco ain't no racecar, I just want to milk some more power out of this minivan engine if at all possible. Not opposed to replacing headers, y-pipe, etc. Just trying to avoid the gimmicky/sleezy stuff like RIPP coils that claim 30% more HP out of thin air lol.
    Thanks in advance.

Remove armor and giant tires. Sell Tacoma, buy Tundra. Put armor and giant tires back on.

4.88 or 5.29? Been chewing on this one. Just wouldn't want to blow cash on the wrong size.

I have re-tuned with KDMAX tune to LT. I'm on stock tires but have a lift, sliders and roof rack. The tune helps. I think re-gear is going to help the most with tires and weight. 5.29 suggested for 33s to 35s tires. 4.88 for 31s-33s. I plan to do a re-gear in the future - my friend suggested 5.29 since it'll cost the same and you would rather pay and do the re-gear once and not worry about it again. My friend runs 305s with 5.29s and KDMAX tune and he loves it.

FI is really the only way for more "power" on this truck.

There really is no more 'power' w/o a bucket 'o cash.

However, more driveability is available. Gears will compensate for tires (which raised the effective gear ratio) and the added bulk.

I have a pedal commander in mine and it seems a bit jumpy. I have it set to Sport mode +1.

I have the KDM6 tune with 33" tires and the tune helps a ton. Especially if you continue to use ECT with it, it feels fairly decent. Enough that I don't want to spend $2500 on gears AND, my mileage is bad enough and I suspect gears would make it even worse.

The tune was only a few hundred $ and makes a big difference. Many here say intake/exhaust does nothing for even more money. Try the tune and see how you like it. You can always re-gear if you want. Just my $.02

That's exactly what PC does. Just makes the truck think your flooring it every time you put your foot on the pedal

If you think your Taco is slow now, swap in a Diesel

My suggestion, get a second ‘fun’ car you can drive like a go-cart. I’m partial to old VW’s and modern sport bikes but everyone has their fav.

    4 run, 2 don't
    Forced induction.

Someone that doesn't see the value in spending the $6-8k for roughly 80hp shouldn't consider "power adders" at all. Everything else shy of FI will be a placebo effect especially with armor on.

Gears would be your next best bet.

i don't have a 3rd gen so i'm not sure what is best - but there are a ton of threads on the topic. i think either way you will be happier. gears make a huge difference.
