    Hey all,

Headed out to Moab from San Diego January 8-12.

I have a decently built taco with a great amount of wheeling skill but still currently open differentials.

It is our first time going and we will be camping out of the truck and my RTT

I wanted to check in for recommendations, where to camp, trails to run, and other things to do (my lady would like to do a couple other things then just sit in the truck wheeling.

Any input and advice would be rad

I have no idea about the park, where to go etc. also anyone else gonna be out there?!?

Check the weather a few days before. If it snows in Moab, doing the 4x4 trails is gonna be less than fun to downright dangerous.

Go find the "Moab Trail Guide" on Amazon. Real handy book that breaks down all the moab trails by difficulty.

If your lady mountain bikes, thats another great thing to do in Moab. Can rent a bike from a shop (if theyre still doing that in covid times) and fill an afternoon.

    Thanks man!

I’ve been watching the weather, right now it looks like it’s just super
    Cold (which is doable)

if i have to cancel I’ll head to Sedona or sand hollow for the views, but I’m really looking forward to Moab. Should be a fun trip. Pretty good at wheeling just want to make sure i don’t get myself in a tight spot alone

There are still a lot of good trails and places to explore if it snows, just stay away from slick rock and steep trails.

I was just there 12/20-22. We were able to do hell’s revenge and fins n’ things on the last day, one week after snowfall. However Sevenmile rim was dry and nothing too steep and only one south facing slick rock section, great half/full day of exploring! There are many other trails around the NW of town and sandy areas that would be great when damp! Good idea to check in with local rental shops too.

I did a side by side tour on hells revenge. Was pretty fun. I've seen a stock OR do hells revenge but idk I'd recommend it. Definitely a trail worth checking out one way or another.

    +1 Moab trail guide book.
    Also check https://www.rr4w.com/Trails-Home.cfm

I’m stock height, full skid plates, hitch skid and no sliders. I have fun on the level 4 trails but get some use of the skids, especially the hitch skid!

Thanks for the response! I’m super stoked to go!

If the weather looks solid by this Friday We will be in for sure.

    regarding trails etc,

mis there just awesome random beautiful trails you can take all over the place? Regarding wheeling, what’s the rating system like?

Are their random obstacles you can find etc or are they only on certain trails? I’m super excited to go, but also nervous as it will be just my rig.

My Rig is fairly built and I’m pretty experienced with picking a line etc but also know that this is where the big boys play lol

My Moab trail book came in today.

I know it’s the off season, so what do you guys recommend regarding camping etc?

You’ll be golden on any of the “blue” trails in the book. Then work into the “red” trails still recommend for stock vehicles. That’ll give you a good idea of what you like.

unfortunately I haven’t camped around there.

    Have fun!

Was just in Moab January 2nd, camped in castle valley. Single digits at night, and a bit of snow around. Drove the salt valley rd out of arches. Not a 4x4 trail but scenic and off the beaten path.

The visitor center in town opens at 9am and has clean bathrooms FYI

    Oh man!

the trip was incredible! I’m in love with that area. Unfortunately the snow kinda put a dampener on a lot of my wheeling plans, but we still had fun!!

ended doing a run or two half way by ourselves but i didn’t wanna push it being the only vehicle out there. I can’t wait to go back tho!

It's been an unusually cold year. We usually get some breaks in the cold but this year it's been pretty consistently cold. By now you are probably already camping, but if not be prepared for low temps.
Coming in from the north there's a pretty fine restaurant up high on the left of the highway. Don't remember the name but you'll see it. If you like quality food they do some good meals. Utah has been pretty loose about Covid but who knows how that goes with any particular restaurant. For a nice side jaunt on a gravel road you might try Onion Creek north east out of town. Not any four wheeling, just a fun canyon.
EDIT: Oops, failed to notice dates and posted this without realizing. Oh well, I'll leave it up anyway.
