I do most of my work on BLM land in southern Nevada and can testify to how dumb and disrespectful people can be.

I love getting out on public lands but if people can't do it without running over animal burrows, destroying soil crusts, mowing down shrubs, tearing up the trails, and leaving trash everywhere, then so be it. Deserts are fragile and I've been the guy picking up the pieces of desert tortoises run over by vehicles. It's not fun.

One sad thing is that (as another commenter noted), BLM and other agencies are so understaffed with rangers that there's basically no possibility of enforcement or engagement--which makes closing off entire areas the only option.

I hope that as more conscientious off roaders and campers we can spread the good word and do more than our part to pick up some of that slack.

Sadly, this is the case in far too many places.

Don't fight 'em - join 'em...

If you want to access those areas work with those folks and the BLM and the Feds to come up with
something that works for everyone... limited access, permits, closed areas, vehicle types, MAJOR FINES
including loss of vehicle for violations - rewards for busting someone for violations -

Then... and only then will those areas remain open to abiding folks who want to get out and enjoy their
( insert vehicle here ) in the wild.

These environments are fragile, been around 100's of millions of years and can be destroyed in a decade.
They need to be protected so EVERYONE ( including clean off-roaders ) can enjoy.

So I say anyone interested should step up and see how this can happen.

Don't trash it. Pretty simple. Too bad there are so many dickheads, we have to share with.

Closing trails and associated facilities is just a nice way of saying "we don't want you here anymore, regardless of the financial impact." I don't blame them. Some costs can't be mitigated. Just go and expect to pay the price and expect things to not be the same - or just find somewhere else to enjoy - until they do the same. JMO and observation of life as it is. :crapstorm:

Never offroaded in Moab but boy is that beautiful country, regardless of mode of travel. Understand the frustration of the sensible and considerate off-roaders but its often the case that a few idiots ruin it for everyone.

I watched a few YT influencesers showing famous Mickey's hot tub full of oily sludge at the bottom. They would not put their vehicles through it, but said nothing....

    I supported it.

However, I do support BLM and any enforcement agency to crack down with straight savagery, the equivalent of when someone poaches animals, to people who fuck around. They should find out.

I can't tell you how many times I have visited one of the beautiful places I found... and discovered that someone had destroyed it. People look for the most natural beauty in a place to camp and they cut trees, leave ruts going up hills, throw bottles and cans and other trash. I've even found trees ripped from the ground and smoldering over an abandoned fire. Hunters that leave carcasses in the hills, and people too lazy to drive five extra miles to a free landfill... and instead of making one big pile of garbage they have to find just the right spot to start a new pile.

Moab is the best off-roading in the world and the idiots that trash everything are ruining it by trashing everywhere else so that the politicians want to close everything, especially the best.

I don't understand why there are no fines assessed to people that trash places. The government has all kinds of money to spend on enforcment in town but they can't afford any strategies to discover who's trashing the campsites and trails?

    Yeah...no.

I love the outdoors and I love the wide open spaces and live in a nearby area.

I support any actions the BLM take in rolling back the damage being inflicted on these amazing public lands by assholes who don’t respect it.

Stick to posing your bad ass rides on the grassy knolls at your local parking lot. Public lands don’t exist as photo op back drops for your social media posts.

seems like Moab raises a lot of revenue for the state , they should ensure enough BLM officers are in the area to look after the area. Huge fines for morons damaging and littering.
I drove from BC with buddies for off-roading and mountain biking, fantastic area.
