Just FYI... if you are bringing dogs the redrock is really tough on their pads. Dogs can literally have their pads fall OFF after being on the rock for a few miles. I had a dog that I took for long walks on pavement and cement sidewalks all the time, and he was fine... but I took a friend's Irish setter down early to get a camping spot and after we went for a short hike the setter's pads swelled up like a blister and the pad fell off on every toe and every foot. That crippled the experience for a while, I can tell you that.

If you don't aclimate your dog's feet bring some boots for them to wear. It will save you a visit to the vet.

I will be bring my dog and thanks for the heads up. Luckily my girlfriend is a vet tech! But hopefully we don't need her expertise!

Yeah, the dog was fine and a month later you'd never know it had a problem. Freaky experience.

Yep that's how we were gonna roll. I've got a bunch of books on the OHV in CO and Moab.

That's nuts is it the heat of the rock or what that causes that? I know I had a pup that liked to cut his pads a bunch and they make it look like a crime scene. Poor fella I'm sure it was miserable.

Red rock/slick rock, is sandstone, so I guess it is much like sandpaper on tender feet. As I said, I had a dog that was used to running on cement sidewalks and he did fine.

Im down for a moab trip, im about 4 hours away in northern Utah! Been to moab 6 times. What trails are planned? I did Colorado middle of august 2020, Holy Cross trail, then black bear pass to telluride then back imogene I think. Its was in the 20s tent campin in Colorado. I have done poison spider, golden spike, gold bar trifecta, moab rim, hells, fins,7mile, steel bender loop, onion creek to rose garden hill to top of the world is amazing!

I’m actually going with family in June and then again with some friends in August. I don’t think I’ll have enough PTO to go again lol but if the plans with the friends fall through then I’m a maybe
