Cant go wrong with it for sure! And it's easy to get working with a mobilinkd tnc and aprsdroid. I'm still working on that with the Yeasu.

It would be awesome to be able and plug a radio into our NAV system and screen. 1 less thing to mount and have in the way.

So I understand you bluetooth the tablet to the TNC, and run an audio out from the TNC to 6 pin DIN connector for the 710 echolink port. I hear there are some settings on the headunit you have to change. Any chance you know what those would be?

Yes, I have a write up I did for it probably a year ago. I'll have to find it this evening. You need 2 cables from mobilinkd the 6 pin connector and the adapter that moves pin 9 to 4 or something like that. I'll find that after work today. Has settings for radio, tnc, and aprsdroid .

Sounds good. Looks like the adapter moves pin 5 to 4, but I see what you are talking about. Thanks!

Have you thought about running the dashtop multi-mount? Once I start setting everything up that was my game plan if I could find a way to "hide" the cable for the head unit so that when I remove it, the cable isn't just sitting there.

One of the few things I would kill for on a 2nd gen is that mount. Birddawg and the expedition essentials new mount are my closest options. The EE one is just too obtrusive for me.

I'm using a Lido Mount that bolts to the seat bolt to hold the radio head. Worked well so far.

Did you use the 18" or 22" inch seat bolt mount?

Man, you guys sure jacked this guy's thread, lol.

Hey OP, just get a Uniden, 4' FireFly FireStik, heavy duty spring, 18' FireRing cable, and an antenna mount for wherever you want to mount it. For about $150 you will have comms. Then, when you hit the lottery, come back and read this thread for more ideas.

Thank you, has it been fairly stable while offroad? I'm gonna be using it for an Ipad mini.

Alone it has some movement but it comes with a bracket to help hold it to something midway through the tubing.

Awesome CB setup, TRD leaf springs, matching camper shell...more to come some day.
Eventually you will want to run both ham and CB.

Remember what we consider CB in the states (11m) is not what other countries consider CB (some 10m) and the vice versa.

A cheap fun way to start out is get a CB, SSB capability is a plus, and spend a decent amount on a quality tuned antenna.

I am running a galaxy 979f in the center dash under my aftermarket head unit. It is online with a RM KLP203 to a Sirioo 5000 mounted to my rooftop.

Barefoot (that is not amped) I expect anywhere from 7-10 miles on AM and 20+ miles on SSB.

With the KLP203 on those numbers go up drastically....out of state on SSB is doable all day then.

When the Skip is rolling...well, the sky is literally the limit. I've QSLs from Germany the other side of the states, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago and Puerto Rico. And just about every one of the 48 conntential.

I'm thinking about installing a HAM, but I don't really like all the clutter.

Was in the drive through for coffee and threw it up there to re-organize.

Midsized BWO killed it that day.
