Thanks for the help! What modification is needed if I want to put the plastic back on top of it? Just mainly trying to protect the metal from getting scraped and rusting.

There are three plastic male tabs on the backside of the plastic that help locate it during assembly in the Toyota plant. Cut those off, that's it.

I have this tailgate reinforcement installed and can recommend it highly. The fit and finish were very high quality and I like the ribbed surface better than the factory plastic. It is more comfortable to sit on and makes a better surface to use for a small camping stove and so on.

Sorry to bug you again Joe, but will the ribbed fit under the plastic or will I have to get the smooth?

Just finished installing a smooth plate on my 11. Used a threaded rivet tool which def helped with the install of the upgraded hardware kit. Very satisfied with the product but one question for Mobtown and anyone who has one---has anyone installed a tailgate dampener kit, modified or otherwise?
The extra weight isn't that great-26lbs iirc, but it'd be nice to be able to simply unlatch the gate and have it not slam down when my hands may be full.
    Any input appreciated.

Got my reinforcemental installed. A great product, great finish. I got the ribbed style, it made the tailgate feel a lot more substantial. The guys at Mobtown are great. I ordered before I found out about the sale was on and they refunded the difference. Stand up company, thanks guys.

True story, however I also have E-z struts, on my truck. I put them on well before I got my mobtown gear with out even knowing. I highly recommend getting them, tail gate and hood.

Makes the world of difference with or with out mobtowns smooth plate.

Let me get the link for you.

Honestly, don't think there has ever been an instance where a smooth plate has buckled. You will probably be fine.

EDIT: appears a ribbed version bent, even with the cap:
