Mobtown Offroad Bolt On Tailgate Reinforcement Plate for 2016+ Tacoma

For people that use their truck as a truck and want something even stronger than the flimsy plastic skin on the tailgate but still retain a fairly stock look, here is your solution, the Mobtown Offroad Tailgate Reinforcement Plate.

The plate is made from 14 gauge CNC laser cut steel, then powder coated in textured black. This skin has embossed reinforcement ribs for added strength across the tailgate. You simply unbolt the OEM plastic skin and tailgate cap, slide this in place under the tailgate cap and bolt back down using the factory hardware. The skin does fit under the factory plastic skin if you want to continue to use that but get added strength. (Minor trimming required on plastic skin)

You also have the option to replace the cheap plastic clips in the tailgate with steel inserts and hardware, minor drilling required.

Don't let the redesign fool you, the tailgate is built no differently than the gen 2 Tacoma. No support in the center...

 

Ordered. When will the cap be available and how much will it be?

 

We are shooting for a $90ish dollar price point, it is much larger than the gen 2 tailgate cap. We are hoping for this week for a release. Doing a final fit this week.

Just ordered. After my weekend of unloading a bunch of bushes at the dump and hearing the subtle "breaking" of plastic as I stood on the tailgate... yeah... not waiting for that to fail.

Should design it to have some cup holders in the tailgate like every other truck ever produced in the world. I use my truck a lot for camping and lunch when out skiing. Was kind of bummed they didn't build in any cup holders back there.

 

We've considered it, unfortunately there is no cheap way to do so. We were worried in doing it that it would put the product out of a good price point.

So out of curiousity and I think know the answer.. Does the dampener work with the added weight?

 

So after we place our order, how long typically before tracking numbers are assigned? Has your initial supply already sold through?

 

The added weight does still work with the dampener! Tested it out, it falls a little quicker than without our tailgate skin but it still comes down slow and easy.

 

A tracking number is assigned the day it ships. Typically we ship this stuff within 5 business days. We shipped out about 44 skins yesterday, but they were all 2nd gen trucks, they were waiting for a long time. I am working on getting 3rd gen orders boxed up and should be able to ship them all out early to mid week next week.

 

Maybe make cup holders as an add on option that stick to the tailgate cover with a magnet.

1. I'll definitely order a reinforcement plate. Can you provide a picture of the cap once final fit is approved? Will there be a package deal for buying both pieces together?
   
2. Have you explored (or is it impossible) to make a one piece plate & cap?

 

We aren't going to offer a package deal at the time. Maybe during sales here and there we will.

We don't want to do one piece, another vendor already has that for gen 2 Tacoma, I don't think he made one for gen 3. But, I don't want to copy his design.
