I want it for off roading so I don't destroy the Firestik and so I can put it down if I don't want it sticking up.

I welded this little tab on the back of my awning mount that I found at Allstate Steel and it works great as an antenna mount. I just need to clear the paint from it when I put the antenna mount on it. I'm going to run the antenna cable down the rear tube of my rack with zip ties, then into a hole I'm drilling into the inside of the bed so I can run the cable forward to the cab through a grommet. If you're doing this type of install, you'll need the 18' cable. Always get in lengths divisible by 9'. Something about the math that makes it work better so tuning is easy.

If you bend the antenna on the spring too far to tie it down flat, it will have some memory and stay slightly bent. I just unscrew my antenna when I'm not out on trips.

I understand, I run 3 ham radio antennas on my truck, never had an issue with them flexing and giving when dealing with trees. I do have all mine mounted bed/hood level. If I was placing them higher, I might want a spring too.

The springs stay fine when they flop around and you run the antenna under a tree. It's just if you tie it down really far and bend the spring at a 90 degree for long. But, you can just bend it the other way and it will be straight again. Get a softer spring if you want more play, but then it will wag all over the place.

Mine will be about 2' above my cab. That's why I was thinking it.

I was thinking a heavier duty one, and just not tie it down to hard.

    Less length, more girth
Get a quick disconnect and run it above the spring. Quarter turn removal.

I'll have to look into those.

Sweet! 8 should be good. I can't guarantee I'll get there earlier.

Haha. I've always noticed it pretty bad. I know at work there's some pretty good slopes. My gf never noticed it was so bad until it was up in the air the other day at Avids.

I haven't seen him post in forever.

He still lurks here and there. You might as well have another fabricator there. JD built his truck so he would have good input to share if he can make it.

I think Brandon may come by depending on time. He sounded interested
