Most lights require a relay which lets the small switch current control the larger lights current. If that's the case you can wire the relay from the battery through a fuse to the lights relay and wire the switch from an in-cab fuse(tail lights is common) add-a-fuse so the aux lights only work when you have the lights on. There are two 12v + inputs to the switch, illumination + and switch power. Swich power feeds the switch "on"led. Both leds are connected to the same ground. Illuminnation + can be any 12v source but if you tap the dash light+ wire it will come on with the headlights like all the oem switches. Chassis ground will work for grounding the leds but to get them to dim with the rest you have to tap into the dimmer ground instead of chassis ground.

This may be a dumb question but is there a way to access the wires to the lighter without taking everything apart?.. I'm wiring heated seats and was going to tap each seat into each lighter.. TIA

The last few times I've had to access the wires, no. Others may have a different experience.

It’s possible. Look inside the ports and you’ll see two square holes partway back. The ports consist of an inner metal tube and an outer plastic one. Those holes are where the plastic tube latches to the metal one so you have to push them outwards(radially) while prying the metal tube out of the dash. You can fish wires out below but you still have to remove the rear and then the front center console sections to do even that. You’re likely to scuff your panel doing it this way though so better prepare yourself mentally for seeing your effed panel for however much longer you own the truck. No matter what the latch pins have to be pressed from the front but that’s inside the tube and removing the panel allows you to push the metal tube out from the back instead of prying it out from the front.

How much power does each of the heated seats use? Are you sure the wiring for the lighter socket can handle the current?

I wouldn’t use it for anything else significant at the same time but they’re good for ~9-10A (12V 120W) and the fuse is 15A. Whether that’s enough depends on the heater elements. Add-a-fuses are limited to 7.5A which is fine for switch power or low amp accessories or maybe one for each seat. The only option left is running the wires back to the battery the way the harnesses are made to be installed.

If you plan on doing other mods you could tap them for a trigger wire that activates a relay to feed a small fuse panel in the console. That way you only have the one power wire back to the battery and any new power leads just go to the new fuse panel. In manual 2nd gens there’s a spot under the cup holders that works well and can be easier to access than the stock fuse panel in the dash.

Site says it’s 25W +/- 3W so it should be fine.

    Thank you @ramonortiz55 !

Installed an Alpine ILX-507 today and had to remove the center console and the dash below the climate controls to install my new HDMI/USB 3.0. This saved me some time!

Another thank you to @ramonortiz55 . Went and installed a dual USB point connected to my headunit for ease of use. Instructions were very comprehensive, and the whole thing took me 2 hours, taking my time to not scratch the panels.:thumbsup:
