I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
If you're like me, there are times when you enjoy listening to music in the truck with the door open. However, that incessant door chime makes it nearly impossible.

On my last truck, I installed a simple on/off switch to disable the door chime when I needed to, however that resulted in me locking my keys inside more times than I'd like to admit, after forgetting to turn the chime back on.

This time I've rigged up a couple relays to temporarily disable the door chime, then automatically reenable them when I take the keys out.

    Tools & Material:
    - 1x momentary switch
    - 2x five pin automotive relays, with both normally open and normally closed terminals. (Alternatively, one normally open, and one normally closed relay)
    - 1 add-a-fuse
    - Several feet of 16 gauge wire
    - Butt splices
    - 1x spade terminal
    - Wire strippers
    - Crimpers
    - Trim Tool
    - Multi-meter

    1) Remove the trim along the bottom of the driver-side door.

    20240818_124332.jpg

    2) Loosen the trim on the B-pillar. You won't be able to take it off completely without unbolting the seatbelt, but you'll be able to loosen it enough to work.

    3) Once the B-pillar trim is loose, you'll see a little yellow wire going into the door switch. You're going to want to cut that wire, and splice enough new wire onto each end to get to your new switch location.

    20240818_124328.jpg

    4) Thread the wires down the pillar, and through the floor trim, securing them with zip ties.

If all you want is a simple on/off switch, you can splice it onto these two wires, and call it a day. Otherwise, read on.

    20240818_124332.jpg

    5) This is the part where some knowledge of electrical systems is important.

Use your multimeter to find a fuse that is ON when your key is in the ACC position, and OFF when the key is in the OFF position.

    6) Install your add-a-fuse in this location.

7A) I've drawn a wiring diagram, but I'll give a brief explanation below.

    Untitled design_20240818_160211_0000.png

7B) Relay #1 is going to be your holding circuit. Bring the power from your add-a-fuse to one terminal of your momentary switch, as well as to the common terminal of Relay #1.

7C) Connect the other terminal of your momentary switch to the coil power terminal of both relays, as well as the normally open terminal of relay #1.

7D) Connect the relay ground terminal of both relays to any ground wire, or use a spade connector to connect it to the frame.

Now when you press the button, both relays will activate, closing the the normally open terminal of Relay #1, which feeds power back to it's own coil power terminal, keeping both coils active until you drain the battery, or turn the key to the OFF position.

7E) The holding relay also feeds power to the switching relay. Connect one of the wires from the door to the common terminal of Relay #2, and the other to the Normally Closed terminal.

When you're done, you're going to have a rat's nest that looks like this.

    20240818_133419.jpg

Test it out! With your key in the ACC position, open the door. Press the button, and the dinging should stop. Turn the key to the OFF position, and the dinging should start once again.

If it all works, mount your button, secure the relays under the dashboard, and enjoy your music without the dinging.

I think you can just push the rubber boot in the door still and it stops.

It cost me $50, an hour of my time. I've wasted more money, and more time on much stupider things.

I think some have removed the speaker from behind the instrument cluster. I'm not sure what other features use that though.

Techstream might be able to disable it as well if you have access to it.

Not sure about Tech Stream, but I know that carista let's you disable it.

I don't want it permanently disabled though. I like the reminder. I just want it off when I'm on my lunch break.

Splicing one wire into door switch and one wire into ignition power. No gremlins to disturb on this one so long as someone understands what they’re doing.

That works in some vehicles, where that rubber boot is by the hinges, and you can wedge something in there to keep the button inside pressed, but not in the 3rd gen. You'd have to stand there and hold it in with your finger.

Exactly. This only interrupts the signal telling the computer that the door is open. It only affects the door chime, and the dome/map lights.

I hear you there. Nice approach, but I will say, just removing the speaker from the instrument panel is my favorite answer. There is no useful chime on this truck. Haha!

It does work on some DoubleCabs. Not sure why it only works on some.

At least in my manual taco, removing the speaker disabled the following: Reverse gear beep, turn signal blinker clicking, seat belt chime and door chime. Took all of 10 minutes (which was less time than even reading this post ) and I have no ragrets (not even a single letter!).

Not on mine. I tried that. Maybe the Canadian trucks are different?

Agreed. It is not a Canada thing. I've seen it work only sometimes on US DCSBs and DCLBs. I have not see it work on any ACLBs, esp mine.

Removing is the way. Only the seat belt chime and the turn signal click are affected in addition to the door beep. I do not miss any of them.

Reverse/proximity/safety alerts were unaffected on my 21.

There is no available setting in TechStream.
