when I bough this truck, I said to myself “No modding. Just going to be a reliable DD”.

shortly after, decided “just gonna change the grill”.

fast forward to almost 2 years later, different suspension, 3rd set of wheels, 4th set of tires, all kinds of little bits and pieces added / changed, etc.

currently deciding whether I wanna go even further with it, “full retard”, if you will.

modding was just a never ending rabbit hole, is one never happy?

sometimes I see some of the very nice stock Tacomas and feel a little jelly.

Tell me about your ride, post a picture. What are your thoughts, what say you?

I'd rather spend money on camping fees, gas and concert tickets than aesthetics. Its all about priorities.

Sometimes its nice to take a shower and do laundry after a few days in the rough. :yay:

Alternate take: The more unique your vehicle, the easier it is for people to track you.:spy:

I hear you there. Seems like I have been spending less time out on the trails and more time worrying about the next mod.

although I will say that depending on what it is that you decide to do to your truck, it can make it “more capable / fun”.

Yeah, functionality improvements are a different category and harder to pin down a value on. I come from a pretty frugal family so it takes a long time (and possibly a sale) for me to jump on something, and even then I'm thinking "Could I do with out?". About half the time though I'm saying "FFS why didn't I do this earlier!?"

Im 34 years old. Im on my 17th vehicle since I was 16. Literally none of them have been stock. Some have been nowhere near stock. Its a never ending rabbit hole unless its a car you just hate.

I'd say mod it for what you want/plan on doing with it. If you don't plan on using it, and can't justify the cost or investment, then don't do it. Like 99% of people don't need long-travel suspension systems, and you'll find a lot of people that drop the thousands to go that route and never end up using them.

I think the taco community is pretty good about not flexing on each other, so only do what you'll use not show off!

Hmmm. I've caught a bit of the modding bug to an extent but I don't want to go extreme with my truck. Aside from wheels and tires (that get installed Friday) most of my mods are relatively inexpensive I have a bunch of DIY mods I will tackle during the holiday breaks in between DIY bathroom renovations. I have to really slow myself down because I want it all done quickly but I like how my truck is coming along. Aside from possible suspension improvements next year I don't foresee anything else major for quite some time and I may hold of on that if my truck performs well stock.

I am sure some new items will catch my eye later on down the road but I think with what I have now it will make the truck 85% complete the way I envision it.

You have to make them your own and its OK to enjoy the truck for a while before adding to it or changing it, in my opinion.

Yep. My first car was a hand me down 1991 Camaro Z28 from my dad. By the time I got it, it had a handful of aftermarket parts. When I got rid of it senior year at almost 300k miles it was still running mid to low 8's in the 1/8th with a measly 305ci V8 designed during the fuel crisis. I moved to a 2001 Mazda Protege MP3 from there and got into Auto-X. My dad has owned nothing but Camaros and Corvettes since he was 16 so I was doomed. Even my mom is a car nut. Has a 2016 Camaro SS currently.

    nothing special.

My current ST Maxx's are completely shot from a piss poor alignment I ran for 10k miles. I scooped up 5x of the Milestars from Amazon for $780 shipped. Figured even if they only last 35-40k miles, it's money well spent.

Your money, your life, your decisions... it's all up to you, your priorities and what makes you happy. Just curious - 4th set of tires in 2 years?! Are you extra harsh on them, or just trying out different types/aesthetics along with the wheel swaps?
