I am a avid model car builder and was curious if anyone else out there is into them as well. I started when I was around 10 years old. 50 years later my one bedroom and one wall of the garage are full of them. I never counted all of them but it has to be about 500. I even have a glass display case from a Hallmark store full of them. I seldom build them like they came in the box. I love Gassers and build them when I can. I have boxes of parts I have picked up at swap meets and yard sales. Most of my kits came from the same places seeing hardly anyone sells them in the stores anymore. I know the hobby is not dead with what I can still find out there. I still have 32 unbuilt kits.
I picked up a Toyota Tacoma kit earlier this year that I will post with this. Im sure someone will notice the build has 5 lug wheels. Those will be replaced when I find some decent 6 lugs. The other picture is just 1 wall in my bedroom. Id like to see what other guys are building. Maybe someday there will be a 3rd gen Tacoma to build. I know there is a snap kit out there of a Tacoma older than this one.tacoma alpha 050.jpg tacoma alpha 053.jpg models hot wheels 054.jpg

It's interesting that the aftermarket for model kits is as prevalent or more so than real vehicles. Here's a '69 Chevelle SS in progress.

While not a model car, there's this guy... Just haven't found time to air brush him yet though.

Very cool. Something relaxing about airbrushing and smelling that hobby glue.

Sniffing glue huh o_O haha jk

Man I miss doing these models. I recently got back into collecting Hotwheels. Might try my hand at doing some custom paint jobs on some duplicate cars.

No wonder I enjoy building models so much. All this time it was the glue and paint thinners taking the edge off of things. Wow. I better get back before the glue dries.

I used to build planes and hang them with fishing line in my room. Really wish I still had all of them, maybe 10 total. Had built a couple cars but not many.

    Great thread, rock on.

    You are crazy man!

I love models--made a ton of them as a kid, mainly 50's-60's era cars but also a couple of large ships and Aurora Universal monster models. In my 20's I got into military planes and armor (mainly WW2 German tanks).

I wish I had time for that now but woodworking is my main hobby these days. Wood glue doesn't have quite the same smell.

Just FYI I don't know if you have heard of it, but in addition to the hundred or so vintage cars, the Okoboji Classic Car Museum has a model collection that probably numbers in the thousands. Well worth the visit if you are in the area.

Prices are ridiculous when buying new kits. I only buy new when there is something that I really want. I pick them up at yard sales, estate sales.flea markets and swap meets. I just picked up 2 AMT promos still in the box with no damage for $10 at a flea market Saturday. They are not worth much but looked great after I spent a few minutes detailing them. One was a 93 Camaro and the other a 94 S10. I have about 25 promos. Promos are models of the car you were buying at a dealership that they used to give you when you bought a new car. I also added a shot of 3 Edsils I had built. There is a GTX and a 61 Impala in the shot to. models 048.jpg models 036.jpg
