My understanding is that 1999 was the last year for factory manual hubs. But, I could be wrong.

Were manual hubs available later with certain configurations (e.g., base, 4 cly, 5-speed)? Did they disappear earlier in others?

    What have you seen? Thanks,

    Roy

Nope, manual hubs ended with the 1st gens for Toyotas. In the US anyway. Not sure if it was 1999 or 2000.

I thought the second gen started with the 2005 model year.

It did. I meant manual hubs ended in 1999 or 2000. After that 1st gens had ADD

    Wikipedia says:

"Most 4x4 models came with Toyota's Automatic Differential Disconnect system after the 2000 model year."

But, that doesn't tell me what the exceptions were.

I've never heard of manual hubs being offered after the year 2000, not in the US anyway. Maybe they mean elsewhere in the world, cause I'm sure they were (maybe still are offered) on some models in other countries.

I've got manual hubs on mine as well. 2000 regular cab, 4cyl, base trim I think

Pretty sure 00 was the last year for man hubs. My 99 4cyl auto 4x4 SR5 Ext cab has them.

    4 run, 2 don't
Manual hubs were standard, and ADD became an 'option' up to '99

    Trim level didn't matter

Any idea what year ADD became an option?

ADD was available starting in 1995.5, the first model iteration. Came standard on the Limited trim level trucks.

I have a 2000 TRD SR5 5MT and it is A.D.D., so at least by 2000 it was an option (could have been earlier).

Cool. Now, it seems, I know.

ADD was optional or standard for all first gen Tacomas.

Last available non-ADD set-up was model year 2000.

If anyone happens along with factory locking hubs on a 2001, or newer, please say so.

    Thanks,

    Roy

If you find a set from a Toyota Pickup, it will not work - just keep that in mind. They’re very similar.

If you’re looking to convert your truck, you also need the front differential axle tube -or- you can lock the ADD actuator in place with a hose clamp. I prefer the former, it’s what I did what I did my 4WD swap.

    Thanks.

    I am on a long-term search for a first gen, 4 cly, 5-speed, manual hubs. And...no rust. And...reasonable miles.

So, you can see...it is a long term search.

Take a look on the West Coast. California, Nevada, Arizona, etc. Lot less rust issues here.

I had 1998 SR5 v6 I bought with 445,000 miles on it, after I wiped the dust off the frame rail under the bed it was so shiny I could see my reflection in it. California truck.

I live in Rust Central. But, I commonly work in the west and am well aware of your rust situation. It would be a PIA, but eventually I will give up looking local...and, I will go off the clock while working out west, buy a truck, and drive her home.

    Not this year, however.

My Tundra is sitting in my driveway right now with a rusted-out brake line. Now, that's a good time.
