Toyota, sports car? No. Not now at least. They give all that love to Lexus in grand touring cars with a fabulous v8.
The grills big, but the looks grown on me and I would really consider an RCF or IS500 if I was in the market for a new car

But I’ll stick with the 93 mr2 I’m picking up and a Camry V6 swapped in it

The A86 is more than a warmed over Subie. The bottom end of the engine is Subaru but the top end tech is all Toyota, as is the transmission and rear end. Toyota spent a lot of time tuning the chassis too

Yep....Lotus has used the 2ZZ and 2GR engines for some time.

Given the design language of the EV concepts, don’t think it is going away anytime real soon. The mesh grill is just being replaced with a solid slab. So instead of gulping for plankton, you can plow snow with it…

They did it back in the 1960's, but then they decided they could make more from selling hundreds of thousands of Corolla's a year as opposed to a few thousand sports cars...

I disagree with this. Toyota doesn’t have to produce a super car to take a bite out of the sports car market. Apologies if I misunderstood you.

I don't think Toyota wants to be in the sports car market. That market is saturated with the cars I mentioned and many others. If I had money to burn on a hypothetical Toyota sports car. I would rather buy a Porsche 911 GT3.

My "Toyota" "sports" car. Not a lot of options for a naturally aspirated V6 AWD left out there. Same block as the Tacoma too

    Mostly dust and dirt.
That should be the corporate motto of General Motors.

But Toyota could come in way under that price point.

I drove a 2016 Scion FRS. Subaru engine Toyota electronics and drivetrain. After owning sports cars off and on for 30 years this was by far the most fun i ever had in a car. I put on the TRD springs and would out handle faster cars with Prius tires, on the track. A lot of Mfgs use other mfgs to produce parts for their cars. I could care less if Toyota makes a sports car without all Toyota guts and Toyota would not use other mfgs parts without extensive R and D. The Supra is a fast car and would like to have one but my next vehicle will be an EV. I have a Land Cruiser now and it's my fun vehicle but to each their own.

Nice, but I'm hoping Toyota will eventually go back to I-6 engines. I would already own one it had that engine...lol but since that isn't happening any time soon, will probably take a close look at the GR-86 when it finally arrives. Rumors have it the Supra may get the BMW M2 engine and MANUAL transmission. Katie bar the door if that's offered!

Maybe, not a sports car, but I would love for Toyota to just really make a crazy Baja type vehicle. It would definitely be a successful seller I think.

Something Like the FJ cruiser with a tundra engine, 2 doors, fox suspension, triple locked AWD. No chrome, $80K

Lexus LFA was a solid entry but they figured out a way to screw that up. They need a new HALO car to get that excitement going again. The new Supra is cool but isn't generating the same excitement that it did in the past.

It’s not generating excitement because it’s ugly and it isn’t a Toyota.

There was a rendering last year that was kinda cool, if a FJ Cruiser and a Meyers Manx had a love child.
