Some time ago I reached out to USAA about off-roading and aftermarket parts. I found out i was completely covered if something happened while off-roading, and that i was automatically covered for $5k in mods over KBB. Just needed receipts at the time of claim. If I wanted more coverage all i needed was to say how much over KBB and again provide Receipts at time of claim.

This thread just reminded me I need to contact my insurance agent to make sure I'm covered for aftermarket accessories. I'd be out thousands of dollars should something happen to my truck.

when i totaled a car my insurance company let me come to the shop to remove all of my mods so that i could resell them, including the full set of wheels/tires installed on the car at the time of the accident.

I’ve had Insurance cover my upgraded OEM parts. Might be something to that vs aftermarket also

The above statements are incorrect, insurance could legally deny coverage for the aftermarket parts but they can NOT deny an insurance claim solely for the reasons you wrote.

Have you had any luck with this? I'm in the same boat and coming up empty. The best I've found so far is esurance which said they'd cover up to 25k of mods.

Not much good info in this thread.

I am at $20K in mods, plus topper shell, solar battery, bike rack tips the scales to $40k all in.

Awaiting Mercury Insurance's response. Sent them itemized list + photos...

Magnuson TVS1900 Supercharger with 87mm pulley, Catted OVTune dumptubes, Doug Thorley 2.5in y-pipe, custom mufflers, 76mm Tundra throttle body, 5.29 Yukon gears, JamesT custom fuel rails, Yotawerx 87mm tune, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension. And some other stuff.

F that..... with a capital F. I felt the same way about 3 months ago and learned that I was an idiot for believing that. I have about $14K in mods on my truck, including a Magnison SuperCharger. I contacted my insurance company to increase my coverage. They asked for receipts and photos. I provided that to them and they promptly dropped my due to adding forced induction. Kinda pissed me off since I know they will insure a HellCat with FI and twice the power just because the FI is from the factory.

So that meant I had to immediately find a new insurance company. They told me it was just the Tacoma and they would gladly take my money for all my other policies. F them, I moved everything (Two other vehicles, two houses and life insurance) to a new company. I had been with the old company for over 10 years with not a single claim. Though the up side was I now pay less for insurance for the same coverage. If I total the truck I will take off all my mods and dump the OEM parts in the bed.
