This is exactly what I'm going with now. Had some muffler shop do a cheap job on my exhaust, told them just to dump before the axle and make it a little louder - now it sounds like shit. Thanks for the video!

I'm on the fence. I put a Flowmaster on my Gen1 and liked it but there was drone noise in the cab. I just got used to it. When I bought my Gen2 I decided against it and I think I prefer it without. A V6 will never sound like a V8. I have a C7 Vette with a nice exhaust tone for my exhaust fix so I don't miss it on my Gen2.

Never seen a TW poll so perfectly split. Is anyone else running the turbine 2525xl or pro exhaust?

    I'd do the TRD exhaust:
    1. Looks nice
    2. From Toyota
    3. Sounds louder than stock without trying to make you look like a poser.

I had one on my 2012 sport and loved it.

Not a bad idea. It’s surprisingly difficult to find any 2nd gen pro clips on youtube though.

Personally, I'd just leave it alone. There is zero performance gain in modifying the exhaust on these trucks. Very easy to slide into a performance loss. It's starting to sound like I'm in a minority of folks with 'original' OEM exhaust? (not 100% original from bought new, in 2008 I hit a rock hard and ripped the OEM muffler but replaced it with an OEM out of a like truck), Have that many of you guys had issues where the exhaust rusted out out and you had to change it, OR you just changed it to mod?

I really like the fit, finish, and low mellow sound of MBRP cat back products on the 2nd gen Tacomas. It really has zero performance gains just looks nice and sounds mellow and good on the V6. I have the MBRP XP Series Stainless Dual system. They are not cheap though, but they are high quality systems. The obvious budget solution would be to get a muffler put on your stock exhaust. If you go that route I would look at Spintech Mufflers or the Aero Turbine.

My theory is if you're thinking about it you might as well do it so you can stop thinking about it. Let us know what route you go.

Totally disgree, about updating the exhaust because it's 10000% waste of money and time!!!! But 100000000% agree on your theory on mods. Sometimes you dwell on a mod sooooo long... Then do it and it sucks. So Now you lost (in added up time from personal experience) years with your truck dwelling over a couple thousand dollars, when in actuality, 2-3 years ago or whatever, if you would have gone ahead and pulled the trigger on a mod, and wasted the money you would have known it right away. Licked your wounds and moved on.

I also agree with the validity of your statement that it is technically a useless modification. When I bought my truck I told myself I was not going to do exhaust. I liked how quiet it was.. then I started modding and thinking about it. One day a buddy and I were having a beer looking at my truck and he asked "are you gonna do exhaust:" The thought was planted I had no choice. I decided to just pull the trigger so I would stop thinking about it and because I have a sickness to irrationally modify everything nice I own...But we get one run through this life. The OP is thinking about it ... he will probably do it haha

My opinion is that if the only negatives are that it’s pointless and doesn’t do anything for performance, it’s not like it’s a bad thing.

It depends on how much you spend on it I guess, but a lot of mods are pointless and don’t do anything for performance. Sound is also subjective, just like appearances.

Did the AFE exhaust and have since sold it. I liked the sound, but it got tiring fast. And then I did the 4.56 gears with slight overmatch to larger tires, and the higher revs when towing had that exhaust off so fast to save my brain from disowning my ears. Lol. Not even a resonator was going to fix that hum

I’m going to give the aero (jones) turbine a shot. I’ll keep my oem muffler and throw it back on if needed.
