I have been modified worn out shifters on XRU for several years. I have also done them for a few members here.

I buy old shifters and refurbish them. I remove the old worn out internal rubber bushings and replace them with a polyurethane epoxy. This will make the shifter very firm and will far outlast the stock shifter. In this process, I usually cut the height of the shifter down 1 ~ 1 1/2 inches.

Today, I have a shortened OEM shofter (9 1/2") for a 4WD. This one is approximately 9 1/2" from the bend (Stock is about 11 1/2"). Stock rubber inernal bushings have been removed and replaced with a polyurethane epoxy. This will shift much firmer than a stock shifter. This works best when paired with an URD SS.

Price is $120 shipped + your old oem shifter. I ship the shifters with a new white tip bushing.

This nex pic shows the difference between a stock height shifter (top) and the 9 1/2" shifter (below). Both are 4WD shifters.

Is there a limit to how short or how much you can cut off?

I can cut them down to 8 1/2" That is usually the limit.

If a woman drives the truck, I would not go less than 9 1/2".

As the shifter gets shorter, the travel is less, but you also loose leverage.

I have a petite wife who works out on a regular basis. She has enough upper body strength to shift 8 1/2" shifter into reverse. If you have been curling 12 oz cans instead of 30lb weights, let the 9 1/2" be your limit.

I have a 9.5 in my truck and I wouldnt go much lower. It isnt hard to get into if you know where it is. However ive had multiple coworkers ask me to drive my truck. They all drive stick, I tell them if they can get it into reverse they can. So far out of 6 only one has been able to. Keep in mind i tell them where reverse is.

I do not stock them anymore.

I build them when someone asks for one.
