I have been modifying worn out shifters on XRU for several years. I have also done them for a few members here.

I buy old shifters and refurbish them. I remove the old worn out internal rubber bushings and replace them with a polyurethane epoxy. This will make the shifter very firm and will far outlast the stock shifter. In this process, I usually cut the height of the shifter down 1 ~ 1 1/2 inches.

This can be done with a stock oem shifter or a TRD short shifter. If you do it with a oem shifter, the combination works best with an URD SS attached. I ran one of these combination on my truck for a couple of years, before I put in a T56 Magnum transmission.

Today, I have a TRD SS for a 4 x 4. This one is stock height and the existing rubber bushings have been backfilled with polyurethane epoxy. This will shift much firmer than a stock TRD SS.

Price is $310 shipped + your old oem shifter. If you currently have a TRD SS and want an upgrade, then the price is $120 shipped + your TRD SS. I ship the shifters with a new white tip bushing.

If you would want this mod to a stock oem shifter, I do the mod for $120 shipped + your old shifter. Price includes a new white tip bushing.

@The Fluffer and myself both have these an I know he loves it an I love it shifting is WAY more smooth an soild feeling. It's a lot more sturdy than the stock stick. I would do it all over again if I had to. Coupe makes so good stuff I would highly recommend it
Fluffs will chime in shortly too

One thing to keep in mind, is TRD cores do not come up for sale nearly as much as the oem units. It is pretty easy to come up with an oem core.

Ive currently got the urd ss kit on my truck so I would just need an oem stick correct? Im thinking the ss kit a shortened stick and your shift knob would all compliment each other nicely.

If you have an URD SS, you just need an oem stick modified. That is correct.

The TRD SS take the place of the URD SS. If you look at the pic, under the ball, you will notice the tip is longer than a stock shifter.

Shifter on the left is stock. Shifter on the right is a TRD SS.

Makes sense, now to decide... does it just make everything feel tighter and notchy?

I guess by notchy I just mean a solid gear engagement feel.

One more question @Coupe the shifter in the top picture has a black coating over it and if you do shorten them what happens to the leather shift boot that the stick slides through?

The boot just moves down. If you want to hold the boot up close to the ball, you can slide a piece of 3/4 heater hose over the shifter, but under the boot. It will hold up the boot.
