You have curtain air bags in the way, unfortunately the only reasonable way to cool seats is to perforate and blow cold air from the floor up at them.

Coworkers Chevy Silverado has front AC/heated seats. Someone needs to adapt the technology to regulate the backseat. Even better, offer bolt on retrofits. 12v auto Reversible hot/cold coolers come to mind

Just wait for them to cool down. #First world problems.

Heat rejection film/tint goes a long long way. Do all windows and windshield. Even on a 98 degree day takes me 3 minutes to cool the truck.

Hmm. There may be enough room for you to duct air from the front to the back in the center console, putting vents in the back of it?
Could even put a small fan in it, sacrifice a little center compartment depth.

I've been inside the headliner. It's a rigid unit with reinforcement along the edges. Modifying it to put something between it and the roof won't be trivial.

I think the AC in these tacos is weak. It's like they took the AC system in the Yaris and put it in these trucks.

I'm curious if the Tundra's is any better? Or even the 4runners?

I drove a newer Corolla and the AC in it froze my balls off.

I wonder if you could score a 5th gen 4Runner center console and graft the vents on the back to the Tacoma console. Only issue is we have cupholders there so the vents would sit lower. I guess it would be nice for your knees lol.

I think current 4Runners is on part with Tacoma.

Its funny because I can go sit in my 3rd gen 4Runner that has been sitting out in the sun all day for 30 seconds and I'll start getting frozen out, but my Tacoma that has been garaged requires a couple minutes to get "cool".

There are floor a/c vents under the front seats that blow to the back. Maybe you can modify those to provide a better pattern?

So one thing I do remember thinking about, regarding the AC in these trucks:

You can really notice how the air blows warmer if you're stopped at a light or sitting in a traffic jam. But the second you get moving at a decent speed, it is much cooler. Nothing surprising here since airflow through the condenser moves that heat away from the truck and makes the system work better.

I can't remember if the radiator fan on these trucks spins all the time, but if you changed to electric fans with a controller then you would be able to run the fans at full speed in the summer and that would probably do a better job of AC cooling. I haven't seen this mod done much on TW, but when I owned an F150 this was a common mod.

OP you do know if you put the a/c on dash/floor it blows air from under the seats into the back, right?

I drive a '15 Tacoma - wife drives a '14 4Runner. Both blow about 38F-40F vent temps on recirculate, but the air flow in the 4R is much better than the Tacoma.
You are right. There is nothing impressive about the Tacoma's overall A/C system

better to run it on the floor, I bet you can junkyard scavenge some higher end sedans/suv's that have rear ac (flat/wide/plastic floor ducts)
and rip out a collection of floor ducts and mcguyver them into the taco somehow.

There are already a/c floor vents under the front seats that blow into the rear passenger area

THis is fine for heat, but most people when they use ac dont direct it towards their feet.

That was my point to add it to the center console. Adjustable vents to turn upwards, Bob's your uncle.

Before my Tacoma I drove a vehicle with out AC for 3 years. I'm pretty happy with the AC. I do have a black sand truck so I do need to give it a little slack.

^that is why I am saying, go rob a junkyard and add floor ducts and bring them up in back somewhere

if you try to go headliner route, all you'll do it ruin the shit of thre headliner and make an ass project

floor ducting can be added, routed, and done and covered up with carpet chunks, headliners are one piece and expensive.

Yes not what I was referring I have had my whole cab torn apart. I think there is room to run a hose and flat piece in the headliner and cut in vents. I just need some advice
