I just recently got a 1999 Tacoma. So far I’ve done simple stuff to it like radio, headlights, wheels. I want to clean up the truck but not do anything too crazy or expensive as it’s my daily while I finish school.

The first thing I need to do is get some better shocks. From what I’ve read Bilsteins are the way to go. I live on a horrible washed out dirt road and need something that will hold up to that. Are 4600s or 5100s better for that? I wanted to lift it 1.5, maybe 2 inches but I’m not sure it’s the best idea as it’ll probably make the ride rougher than it already is. Should I replace the leafs while I’m at it?

After that I’m just trying to clean up the outside and maybe get a different exhaust system so it doesn’t sound like a vacuum cleaner. I was looking at a magnaflow 11255 to start but I’m not sure.

I’m just looking for suggestions and advice. I’m still learning so any help is appreciated :)

Plenty of pages related to your questions. Top right corner has a magnifying glass, it’s TW search option. That’s a good start.

Rebuilding seats with leather from furniture and extra padding. Might put leather on the dash and other interior parts.
For about 15 bucks I got some sound deadening stick-on foamy rubbery stuff and put in my doors. Cleaned and lubed while I was in there. Speakers sound better. Road noise better. Sound of closing the door is better. Best 15 bucks spent on a mod so far I think. Plus windows and door handles work smoother.

Best new mod are Honda Odyssey windshield washer nozzles hehe. Check out the suspension kits that offers for a basic idea of what is available and the options. I have one of their kits and it has been excellent but plenty of good options out there depending on what you need.
