I have a 05 Tacoma with a shell on the back. I am looking for anyone who has performed any mods for sleeping in the back under the shell. Any ideas for more space? Im considering getting a Truck bed one of the inflatable ones, but im also looking to maximize my space, if there are any little tips or tricks that would help me out im open to suggestion.

    Thanks

    check out this guy:

i had the same thing in mind so i started with suspension, tires, and a shell. i've been accumulating camping/backpacking equipment and basic tools/recovery equipment. i dont really need anything fancy, i've camped in the back of the truck with my bag and sleeping pad and i've felt pretty comfortable but i'm pretty low maintenance. do what works with your budget and focus on comfort and you should be good. last time i went out by myself i ran into a 4 foot tall wild pig that was crashing around next to the car so i ended up closing the tailgate but i was still pretty comfortable.

Just throw a couple of cots in the back and rubbermaid containers underneath the cots.

Camper top with racks, Custom fogs behind lower bumper. Interior LED lighting, Rock Lights, Hella 500s with upraged bulbs behind black billet grill, AAL, Front 5100s
One thing that I have yet to do is get a cargo net and mount it to the roof of the cap. Other then that I have installed a 12v outlet in the back and use it to blow up an air mattress. Very comfy and fits between the wheel wells. Works great for short (3-10 day) trips.

When I move into the truck fulltime for a road trip this year I am going to build a platform with hinged doors I can lift up. Otherwise getting stuff from the far end of the bed is a nightmare.

ok so rest a 4X or cut a 5X (if you can find em) piece of ply sheeting on two 2X6 resting in the designated spots and it will get you above the fender wells so you would have more shoulder room. you'll have a nice space underneath to store stuff, but as long as you use a foam pad, your head shouldn't hit the top during a nightmare. this is kinda ghetto. but i was looking for a solution to haul my quad and bike at the same time, trailer was out of the question cuz i dont have money or enough storage for one....yet, and i built one of those bike carriers, but i dont really care for it. i measured the bed and figured to give this a shot, and i can haul both bike AND quad, it is just a BITCH to load by myself. This setup is very strong, more strong than i thought, carries close to 800 lbs of bike, i just wish i had a pic of it loaded. try to see if you can find a 5X and cut it exactly to the bed lip and you may not even need the 2X6, esp if you are just sleeping on it. also the 4x8 works only cuz i slide the quad all the way to the open side and push the bike up on the solid side. good luck and hope it works. price in my area was about 30 bucks maybe forty, 10ft 2X6, and 4X8
